Got the call but…

Finally got the call for my first AP, the blue diver. Only problem is I would be out of town for the next week. SA said she couldn’t take payment over the phone and couldn’t hold the watch. To say I was disappointed was an understatement

Which boutique is it? You should be able to wire them the money to hold.

Yeah, I would ask to wire the funds. Fingers crossed for you!

This makes no sense. Many of us on this forum have wired AP boutiques money before and they have either shipped or held the watches.

I would see if they would accept a wire as well. I have wondered this also for me since I’ve been away for quite a bit. But , so far, no call. Good luck!

Yeah srsly makes no sense haha.

But if worse come to worst, just send someone to grab it. Not as ceremonial, but if the alternative is missing out (which again, I can hardly believe) ...

Difficult to imagine a scenario where this adds up. Credit card or wire, first day stuff.

From my understandings their new rule is all first time boutique purchases that are done remotely are wire only then subsequent purchases with that location can be credit card purchases. However, this is also manager discretion from what my SA said.

First purchase has to be done in person at the boutique. You can wire money ahead of time or pay with credit card in person. Any purchases there after can be done via wire or credit card and the watch can be shipped to you. That's the process I went through when my boutique switched over to being AP owned.

Thats exactly what happened to me earlier this year. I was out of country on vacation so had to wire money. Annoying as I wanted the airmails on a credit card purchase. They would not ship with a credit card purchase only wire. Also they ran a check on the shipping address before shipping.

Can't really fault them on both counts.

Unfortunate that the OP hasn't further engaged with this thread - would have been helpful to expand a bit on which options were offered/rejected.

No options were offered unfortunately. It was just stated that they can’t hold the watch that long and that was the end of the convo

I'd think that some sort of deposit could be given via credit card and then the balance by wire once you're back in town. It seems awfully strange that they couldn't do that for you.

If the funds are available, it seems odd if there's no solution to be found, at least with an AP boutique.

Doesn’t add up at all……don’t give up and speak to someone who is the actual decision maker.

Nonsense otherwise.

My brother just got allocated his first AP, a 26420ti. SA wanted him to collect it today, but because of COVID he had to wait till next weekend. Boutique was totally fine with that.

Not sure why OP’s boutique is acting this way.

The SA has someone else lined up for it and is just playing the OP. Me thinks…

That’s right. Once when I asked if they could hold it for me for like 4 days so I could come decide in person, I was told, “well, when we say we got it for you, we really have like 4 people we submit… and the manager wants it sold today”
[fwiw that wasn’t my main boutique, they’ve always done whatever I needed]

As others have said, this is strange. When I was offered a watch by the AP boutique I asked them to hold it for 3 days so I could try it on in person and they gladly did (and I ultimately turned it down as it didn’t fit well on me). Never have had an issue with any brand on holding watches for a few days.

I think it would be absolutely absurd why they wouldn't hold the watch for you. That should be part of the luxury experience of buying a product in store.

This is really annoying. I mean there are lots of cases of wired payments made so I see no reason why the boutique can't do same. The only possible explanation is that they've got someone else on call and needed an excuse.

💯 Wires are done all the time. And even out of a basic courtesy I’m used to boutique holding a piece while you arrange the payment (using method of your choice). Something else seems afoot here, unfortunately. Perhaps speaking to manager is an option, but this may impact long term relationship. Frustrating situation.

I think this might have something to do with quarter-end. I took delivery of a watch on June 29th and they said they needed to finish the deal in the next 48 hours and was instructed to only hold it for that long.

Got the call on a Tuesday… tried the watch on Wednesday… SA told me I had to close the deal by Friday (via wire). If I couldn’t get the funds to them by Friday they were going to re-allocate. I was luckily able to complete the wire in time but never had to push the issue with the SA or management. I offered a 25 percent hold via credit card and they said if i was sure I could wire by Friday there was no need.
