old school classic, or cool new carbotech?

I have the opportunity to get a Panerai 127 Fiddy or 979 Carbotech Submersible — both the same price, complete box/papers, etc. from trusted seller I have purchased from before.

I know many will say they are very different to compare, but like them both so there you have it.

But in the end, I will be letting go of a few watches and have room for only one Panerai in my collection at this time. Which would you choose and why, keeping in mind age, movements, etc.?

127 all day

The Carbotech models arent going anywhere
Panerai may even release another model that really sings to you and grab it regardless of "only having room for one Panerai in the Collection"

The Fiddy will likely never be cheaper than it is right now
If you've got the means and opportunity, grab it while you can

If you're only going to have one watch to represent a brand in your collection, its always a good choice to buy a model that truly represents that brands DNA

127 for me. It just seems like a classic Panerai and feels like a watch. I don't care for the weight/feel of carbotech.

127 hands down for me. The Carbotech watches are nice but the 127 is Panerai.

127, all day, every day. No discussion, no negotiation.

If I had the funds available, I'd be all over a Fiddy like a fat kid on a cup cake.

Have you read the post above? About those black plastic watches?

Get both as they offer two different feels and looks within the classic Panerai design. I would go with a SS as your first model then add the “Black Luxury” watch to toughen up the collection.

127, If I were to go carbotech sub I prefer the ones that have some blue mixed in, but that's just b/c I'm a fan of anything blue.
