My aspirations of owning a F430 scuderia, 575M or 599GTB haven't changed. All if life should have me so fortunate. The technology to come is sure to be impressive, just not of much interest to me.
Personally I look at Italian cars as artwork more than their spec sheet. I have no interest in owning a hypercar as I would be the guy to "see what this babies got" and inevitably end up on some news story looking like a dunce, or worst... dead When you can buy an 800hp car from a car lot for $100k, power loses its flavor to me. At the end of the day I want an intricate, well built machine with an interior made of the finest quality materials so it stands the test of time. Plus the engine noise/vibration is all apart of the experience. However, I realize I'm the minority, most people buy these to flash wealth to people in places I'm not welcome and the next generation of supercars are sure to sell like hot cakes... probably already a waiting list I imagine. |

The sound emitted from the engine similar to that of the flat plane crankshaft V8 in the F430 is part of the visceral experience of exotics. Without that I'm afraid the experience isn't the same.

Battery powered cars appear to catch fire quite a bit more.

As for me, no I won’t. But that’s because I’m poor (relatively…). My dream is still a 458. Maybe some day I can sell my 2 fun cars and swing one. |

How many track laps can they do? How long to charge? Which tracks support such charging?
No point having either if you can't work towards discovering the limits on a road course track imho.

Not in my range, but I’ve been eyeing 911s for a bit. Drove the tycan turbo s, but i was left a bit confused. I just kept saying, but why? Ya it’s fast, so is a model 3 or S. But it didn’t remind me of a 911, it felt more like a Porsche skin on a Tesla.
When we get to the point where everything is electric, I’ll just drive a Lexus. Electric is fast but to me it’s pretty boring. I hate not being able to hear the motor whine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As the used car salesmen used to say when you asked about the weird sounds coming from the engine......."just turn up the radio"

No way. A lot of the emotion I derive from these cars is the way the sound and smell make me feel.

Not a chance. The electric super car are for people who have never experienced an ICE super car. There is no comparison in the emotional charge you get with a motor with pistons and exhaust. Why do you think the ICE engined cars are going up astronomically? Because the electric cars are emotionless and completely boring.

Several thoughts - a bit odd to lump BEV and hybrid together. With the latter, noise and smell will still be there.
Without a dramatic change in fortune, I don't expect to own either a Lambo or a Ferrari (days of my youth where a large part of my income would go to supporting a car habit are over). I have however driven a friends Aventador on a damp two-lane country road, and do not see how one could engineer the same amount of emotion into a BEV. You get out of that thing exhausted and happy to still be alive. That said, I traded my 911 for a Taycan a year ago, and don't think I'll go back. Maybe have a ICE weekend toy in addition, but as daily transport the Taycan is much better than any ICE car I had in the past. It most certainly does not feel like a Tesla in drag. |

Sure. Why not? Progress is progress.
I’m sure some of the horse and buggy crowd didn’t like ICE cars….. ;-) |

I think EV v ICE is like mechanical v quartz watches for me. Just something about mechanical and ICE that gives them soul that appeals to me.

I've sold sports cars in the past and honestly when you are around them all the time you see what problems arise and what they cost and they lose a bit of their lustre. I still appreciate exotic cars, and like looking at them, reading up on them but I do not wish to own them at all.

The global infrastructure investment shift will be needed ahead of mass adoption. Inductive charging included - the idea of plug-in charging isn’t economically reasonable at scale.
Even then, a full EV ramp-up requires quantum leaps in battery tech, solar tech, and regenerative tech. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
