Keep Daytona or Acquire GMT
Hello all,
Need some opinions on my collection. I currently own: - Rolex Explorer 36mm - Rolex Submariner ND - Rolex Daytona Black Ceramic I've always loved the GMT, and while I love the Daytona I seem to have 3 watches without any color and have been contemplating acquiring a GMT and ditching the Daytona. It is hard decision as I feel like I may regret it as I already have a Sub and the GMT wears similarly to the Sub. Thoughts? |

Just buy a Zodiac watch or Oris for 2k max and you got some colour in your collection.

Ditch the explorer - gmt, Daytona and sub is all
You need. If you get a Pepsi you have some more Color, a Batman is too much like the Sub Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The GMT will wear somewhere between a Daytona and a Submariner IMO. The caseback is less pronounced on the GMT making it more comfortable
If at all possible I’d add the GMT and then see what you’re wearing in your collection. EDIT: welcome to the forum |

Hmm good point. Didn’t think of that. I always thought sub and GMT would wear very similarly but seems like from the replies it’s a bit different.

If you need to sell, I'd get rid of the one you wear / like the least.
I personally think the GMT would be too similar to the Submariner. |

Only add..... plus by adding you have additional diversity too
How deep is your strap / bracelet collection for them?

The GMT is the more versatile watch, no question. However, you have a versatile collection as is, and Im not sure I would make a move. I would give this some time and not get hasty.
If I were you, I would wait and get one of the Tudor GMT (either one) as they are really more in-line with what rolex was and the new GMT's look costume like and shine like a disco ball. The other GMT that looks great is the Longines zulu time, if you want to add a GMT function. |

1. Do you actually like the Daytona?
2a. If "yes," are you trading it because you like the GMT more, or because it's worth the most? 2b. If "no," then what's the rationale for not trading it for something else? 3. Do you actually like the GMT, or is that just seem like the most colorful place to "park" value taken from the Daytona? 4. Does your new, more colorful, watch have to be a Rolex? 5. Are you primarily interested in stainless steel watches? Assuming you're mostly interested in other stainless Rolexes, there are some other good ways to add some color and based on what seem to be your preferences, I'd suggest the YM 40 w/blue dial or OP36 with green (or the easier-to-find bright blue). If you genuinely like the Daytona, though, there are plenty of ways to add some trendy color to the collection without spending GMT money/playing the waiting game. Of course, if you're considering non-Rolex or PM, then there are many, many other options out there to trade a Daytona for. |

Keep what you have and get out and try some other watches on. I have the Tudor Black Bay GMT Pepsi and love the wear and retro vibe the watch has. I wear it on a leather strap, NATO, OEM bracelet and a Forstner Jubilee Bracelet. You have a great collection right now and I would add not take away to add. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Thanks everyone.
I think I’m quickly realizing that rather than swapping I shoo do maybe consider a 4th - either adding the GMT or looking at other options. I had a quick look at the Tudor website and the GMT looks pretty enticing - may go see one at an AD. |

Let the Sub go, and GMT in and you are good to go. Daytona is a keeper

I think that keeping what you have and adding one of these would be ideal. It’s a great watch and would fit nicely in this collection. Also, the Tudor bezel is a 48 click, where the Rolex is a 24, meaning you can offset for the weird .5 hour timezones in the world that Rolex cannot account for!

You can buy a lot of watch by letting go a steel Daytona, especially if you can snag something at MSRP.
How about a precious metal piece? |

Keep the Explorer, it covers all bases and is the only watch you ever need. Dress, sport, everyday, perfect for all occasions. The others are just superfluous. BTW the "sub... gmt... daytona..." mentality on this forum is very pedestrian

I would flip the Explorer for GMT. The Sub-GMT-Daytona trio is a “perfect” Rolex sport collection. Another alternative to consider for a pop of color is flip the Explorer for a colored dial OP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Get rid of the watch that would be the easiest to replace, which in this case would probably be the Explorer.
I wouldn't even consider moving the Daytona. GMT's are coming down in price if you're going grey. |
