Got the Call for My Last Rolex

"This is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper." Several years ago, I thought I was done with buying Rolex. I'd managed to trade away a collection and was left with three Rolex. My Platona was the prized, grail, and I held on to an SD4K and ExpII 5 series in black because of the poor trade value I was allowed. Since then, I've managed to work my way up to six total Rolex and a number of other watches as well. Earlier this week I got a call to come and pick up the most recent version of the Air King. I admit to loving the look of the dial with all its quirkiness. So tomorrow morning I head up to pick it up. Who'd have thought that I'd go out with seven modern Rolex watches with the last be the much overlooked, Air King. This will also allow me to have a trio of "land, sea, and air."

Great purchase Lee.

And great that it is going to someone who will appreciate and wear the heck out of it.

Congrats. It's a solid upgrade over the previous reference.

Congratulations. You are not out, just freshening up. If you stay in the hobby it is just a matter of time before you consolidate/expand/move laterally. Nothing wrong with that. The journey is the fun for me not the destination. Enjoy.

Congrats Lee. I got the old ugly AK, as been stated and I love it. I like the changes to the new AK. Enjoy it.

Very nice. So you've mentioned the Platona, SD4K, Exp II, and Airking. What are the remaining three Rolex pieces?

Not a model I’ve been able to warm up to. But then again, I’m boring.

For those who question the possibility of another Rolex in the future. It is possible but it won't be a purchase; it will be a trade. This will without a doubt be the last purchase. The Rolex collection is at seven with this new watch, which is one for each day of the week. I've also got plenty of other watches so frankly, I'm "watched out."

Thanks, it will get worn in rotation so not quite wearing the hell out of it.

I've not seen the new Boutique so I'm anxious to see it. This is the second watch I've bought from them. The first was the SkyD Blue. Funny, if I were buying more it could open that door, but I really don't think I will. They're not into buying and trading up either (unlike the Boston Boutique.)

I've been fascinated by the green and yellow AK since the first one was introduced. I like the changes to the new one and as I've already a Milgauss, the old one would have been a bit redundant. On the other hand I've also an OP41 so I'm not free from redundancy. I'll definitely post pictures and impressions after I pick it up.

I traded off the SD and the Exp. Currently aside from the Platona and the new AK there's a Bluesy, an OP41, a rhodium dialed YM40, a Milgauss, and a TT slate dialed Daytona. I'm not into GMTs as I don't travel across time zones and find setting them annoying. I've had a bunch of other Rolex and these are the one I've settled on (not settled for).

When they were selling for $200K, it made me rethink wearing it too readily. Now they've come down a bit more to earth.

There was a time when I likely wouldn't consider it. I wanted all the hot watches. Now, I just like what I like and don't like really following the herd. Tastes change and I no longer go after every new thing that catches my eye.
