Safe to play golf with your Rolex?

Just wondering, is it safe to play golf with your Rolex, or could it harm the movement? Heard some stories about the power in the swing could harm the movement in the watch, so I use one of my G-Shocks when playing - just to be on the safe side

Did a quick search here but didn't find an answer...

Ask Tiger Woods he was a ambassador for Rolex Tudor for many years.Would seriously doubt if Rolex would have had a golfer sponsor one of there products, if it was not safe to wear while playing the sponsored sport.

I don't play golf but friends who do play suggest that it's best not to wear a Rolex. Then again, as Padi pointed out, Tiger Woods was a Tudor sponsor for years...

I've heard some of the stories too but I wear mine while playing golf. Have worn it on the shooting range too.

Personally I'm of the opinion that one of the advantages of the Rolex Oyster is the robustness and altough I have some understanding for people being "over-protective" I think that's precisely what it is, over-protection.

There are a few things I wouldn't do wearing a Rolex though, one of them being cutting timber with an axe for instance. That would be stretching things a bit.

Many hundreds of rounds here......NEVER a problem. If there ever is, I'll be looking for a new brand.

Any swing powerful enough to harm any mechanical watch would likely tear your arm off.

Perfectly safe to wear your watch. 20+ years of golf (100+ rounds a year) and never a problem for me. There only problems I have ever heard come from watches being stolen from a golf bag or locker.

Golf??

Maybe I don't get it.

Here are some of the things I have done

Parachuted out of airplanes and helicopters onto deserts floors, water and into the Arctic,
Fast roped and rapelled,
Climbed mountains,
Spelunked,
Dug trenches,
Fired ALL manner of crew served weapons both mounted and dismounted,
Thrown grenades,
Been shot at,
Shot at people,
Been in armoured vehicle collisions,
Built several kilometers of wire obstacles,
Probed for land mines,
Built corduroy roads, box culverts and bridges,
Been in bar fights,
Rode across North America 5 times on a Harley,
Felled, spaced and planted trees,
Fished halibut and salmon commercially,
Shaked roofs and framed houses,
Chopped firewood,
Swam, snorkelled and dove in fresh and salt water,
Fired hundreds of rounds of trap,
Rolled around on the lawn with the grandson,

The list could go on but you get the picture

All while wearing either a Rolex Submariner or GMT

Golf??

Don't worry about your watch. Maybe worry a little about your game. Almost all of the pros do not wear a watch when playing. Phil Mickelson is one occasional exception that I can think of. They do not want the distraction and movement on their wrist.

You will see Tiger wearing a watch at the post match interview or trophy presentation, but not on the course. Do these guys know something about golf that we don't? Of course.

Leave your watch in the bag. Might help your game, too. Why do you need to know the time on the golf course anyway?

I don't wear mine when playing golf only because I usually don't care what time it is when I'm playing.

Now you see, Art, that could be the straw that breaks the camel's back - I haven't been in a good scrum, ruck or a maul wearing my watch

Golf with Rolex is perfectly fine. The golf swing isn't fast or violent enough to hurt anything. A lot of good players will remove their watch to play, but that has more to do with your wrist expanding in the heat and avoiding a tan line.

I usually play with it on.

Wear your watch when playing a sport???

I'm with Balboa. Why do you need to know what time it is when you're on the golf course anyhow? Plus, it makes you look like you should be teaching math, not competing (no offense to any math teachers on the board).

I was of the belief Rolex was a requirement for proper golfing? I see no reason not too.

Anyway, I can also endorse shooting whilst wearing a Rolex: its not gonna hurt anything.

Rolex built their reputation on toughness and water resistance, just because others found a way to make tough watches, too, does not detract from their reliability. We sometimes tend to forget these things because we are obsessive WIS (most of all LOL), and Rolex are regarded more as jewelry these days.

Take it along to the links and enjoy my friend! Have no fear, and have a great game!

Just a little careful

I take my IIC off and place it in a felt lined pouch in my golf bag, with nothing else. When I retrieve it after I play, I carefully lift it out of the pouch and then I put it on when my hand is inside the trunk area of my car, just in case it drops, it won't hit concrete. Also, when I clean it in the sink, I put a towel in the sink, in case it slips out of my hand when soapy. Just a little care for an extraordinary timepiece. Other than that, I wear it all the time.
