Is a Tudor classic worth more than Melt?

By my numbers, a 34mm or 36mm classic two tone, sits at about 1.2 oz of pure AG.

They are selling at 1700-2100$?

The 40mm sure, they trade at $4-4500 but are also heavier.

Most Tudors would be gold capped, some 10K , fewer 14K.

I'm not sure I understand the overall point of this thread, but no way does a 34mm Tudor case have 1.2 oz of 24k gold equivalent.

Aren’t most older two tone Tudor bands plated as well? Funny question. Weight a nice 7928 Tudor sub. Def worth more than its weight in gold

This is the reason many rolex day dates have become head only but no equivalence in the Tudor world. Now that every AD has the 58 18k in the case and they are showing up online for 30% off it would be nice if Tudor melted those down and used the movements elsewhere.

Just weighed my 1601/8 on Jubilee, 108 grams, that's 18K. But the (brass and steel and ruby and rubber) movement and dial and hands and gaskets and crown tube etc all weigh something, and only the remainder is 75% pure gold. Gold is $1820/oz right now, so even if there were two full ounces in this watch, melt would be on the order of $3500, with the jeweller in question offering rather less I think, he would need his profit too.

I'd never sell this watch for that money. I don't think there's anything to chase, here.

IIRC, the case and bezel weigh more like one Troy ounce, not two, which then must be multiplied by 0.75 for 18k, and a smaller value for a lower gold content Tudor.

If you ever want to price out good scrap, Kitco (Canadian) has a good site. You look it up under ‘Jeweler services’. You can pick thé functional currency and the percentage payout. From my experience you get about 90% of market but depends how much weight you have. You should keep commodities at this time. I think most Rolexes have better value than scrap$.
