Would you do the trade for a Romain Gauthier??

Hope everyone’s 2023 is off to a great start!

What do you think about this trade? Is RG a brand/watch worth parting with the two watches? Would appreciate your advice!!

In: RG Insight Micro-Rotor
Out: PP 5320g + FPJ Elegante 48 Titalyt

I wouldn't do it. I love the 5320 and the 48mm Elegante is also a hard to get pieces. RG actually can be bought at discount.

Which AD please? Before I recently pulled my trigger at retail, I have asked all the AD in HK, TW and JP and none is offering any discount on the Insight Micro-Rotor.

I ordered an RG Bracelet C and based on my contact with ADs no discount for all reference. Also, AD said they discontinued Logical One and will release Logical Two sometime.

This is a mega news - do you have further info of the Logical Two please?

Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm also excited about the versatility by slapping on the rubber strap. It looks very natural, and gives it a sporty vibe!

Not much info so far other than it might be unveiled in 2024 according to Romain's recent youtube interview with Time Keeper KW

The only hint I got from my regular AD is that it will be at a significantly higher price point and a different complication. 2025 is likely when it will be announced. My guess is probably a Tourbillon?

Thanks for your input! Totally agree - both the 5320 and the Elegante are wonderful watches, and I'm very lucky to own both.
Curious about the discount though, as I have never been able to get any AD to discuss discounts.

100% do it (coming from a Patek and Journe fanboy). That's one of the best hand-finished watches in the market. It's bizarre why they are not as in demand as the Simplicity and RRCCII but in my eyes, almost up there with this pantheon of finishing greats. To back this up, I have acquired one recently and will post an incoming thread shortly.

I’d do that trade in an instant but I’m very biased. I love RG.

RG is awesome but very very few people aside from us lunatics have ever heard of him

His pieces are quite unique and if they speak to you go for it

I love my continuum and I keep kicking myself for not picking up a logical one when it was offered to me

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your Continuum!!
I think the fact that it can only be noticed by us "lunatics" is another reason that the watch/brand speaks to me. Would love to join the club.

I just got my first RG continuum and it wears like a dream. I don’t have a patek or FPJ to compare it to, but I think the finishing of my watch is top notch. Never heard of the brand until a watch friend of mine suggested the continuum to me. I know the quantities he makes is very limited, but I’m glad I was able to get my hands on one.

Have you had the RG on wrist? It is 39 mm in diameter (which is the smallest of RG’s offerings), but it is a mite over 13 mm tall, so the proportions are different than the two pieces you would be trading. RG watches have substantial cases (no hollowing out), so they are substantial on wrist. Unlike the C, they have heft.

RG finissage is among the best in the industry (Romain is a Dufour prodigy). His watches are beautiful to look at. He also utilizes unique mechanical components, including his balance wheel, lever, and going train wheels. There is much to love.

Romain’s customer service is the best I have encountered of any maker with whom I have dealt. He is accessible and accommodating. The ownership experience is excellent.

From a straight valuation standpoint, I think you would be going backward just a bit, but not all trades are financially advantageous. If the new acquisition brings you more joy than the departing pieces, that is a value consideration of a different type.

I own an HMS Ten and enjoy it very much. It would never be my only watch, but I cannot envision letting go of it, either.

Thank you for providing a comprehensive view on this.
I actually have had a chance to try on the Insight Micro-Rotor, and despite the height being a bit on the higher end, I think it fit comfortably.
I'm glad to hear about your customer experience, as this was one point I had some concerns around.
Of course, the financial value aspect has crossed my mind, but I think you phrased it best - this is a different type of value consideration!
Still debating about the transaction, but hope to join you in RG ownership soon!!

There are 12 interior angles collectively on the dial-side and rear, of which 2 of them are less than 90° (extremely difficult to finish even by artisans). Also, that gorgeous grand feu enamel is applied 20 times and fired at 800°C (inherently high rejection rate). Lastly, there are only 10 pieces of each PM/dial colour combi (RG only produces 60 watches in total per year) and I'm certain you won't see another similar one in the wild unless there is a RG meet-up. Size-wise, it is a very wearable 39.5mm/12.8mm.

This is a watch enthusiast's watch. Please get it.

Thanks Ichiran for your detailed comments!
First of all, it let me know when you're in JP next time, and it would be my absolute pleasure to go watch (window) shopping together!!

Considering you're a Patek/Journe fanboy, your words mean a lot!! The angles and the dials are just mind-blowing. Trying it on for the first time, I felt a rush of excitement that I have yet to experience with any other watch.

Truly looking forward to your incoming thread - is this for the Insight Micro-Rotor?? Which color/metal combo did you get?

Konnichiwa!

I just got my order confirmed today. Here is my thread:
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=887018
The watch will be delivered in Q1 2024. I chose white dial because the blue hands go very well with it. However, your blue dial is harder to make and I think it is more value for money since they cost the same

I visited Kansai and just returned 2 weeks ago. Yes, it will be great to meet you to go watch shopping, I presume in Tokyo?

Extremely happy to hear that your offer was confirmed today, congrats!! Also, thanks for sharing your thread - it was a great read!!
The white dial is beautiful, so is the black! My favorite color is blue, and hence my preference on the blue dial.

Oh wow, you were just here!! Next time, for sure. Yes, I'm in Tokyo.

I could be wrong as I’m not paying so much attention to market prices but my impression would be the dealer is getting a slightly better deal on this trade.

That said, no question for me than the RG is far superior to the combination of both the Patek and Journe. I have thought about trading for one several times myself, both when they were easily found discounted and more recently. The RG is another level finishing wise from pretty much everything we see on this forum, and it’s a good size with a modern and interesting dial side design.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the insight - let me do some more research regarding the current pricing.
No doubt that RG is on a completely different level in terms of finishing, and the size suits me well too.

Normally i say no to these types of trades. It's very, very, VERY rare i say go for it.

In this case GO FOR IT and do the trade in a heartbeat.
