The only Rolex I've seen in person where I definitely noticed it having unusually bright lumes is 126719 BLRO Meteorite. It was hella brighter than anything else I've personally tested.

Having said that the 6 digit Explorers seem to be heavy hitters but I would've put any of the 6 digit divers at the top of the list, but I'd be happily proven wrong when viewing the lume on them side by side throughout the night

My Polar dial Explorer 2 is certainly brighter than any of my others (Deepsea, GMT BLRO, CHNR, OP.)

Not in scope of this post, but I just picked up a Tudor Ranger for my son and that sucker is bright!

Actually this is a harder question to answer than you’d think.

The 226570 is stunning, as many know. However, it reacts relatively poorly to interior light and better to sunlight. Chromalite is not as bright as superluminova when fully charged, but it lasts longer through the night.



This is charged by sunlight in a darkened (but not dark) room. In the dark, it is quite bright when charged by sun — but much less bright when charged by interior lights.

However, this below photo is when charged by an led light next to a service dial 1675:


In the same room charged by the same light, there is little actual difference in light output (though I suspect the 226570 would stay brighter for longer).

However, the best lume I have on any watch comes from Omega:




It glows far more brightly than the 226570 from interior lights but fades more quickly. After an entire night, both the 226570 and the 2234.50 are equally bright — but the Omega steals the show, given that it will respond better to interior lights.

From my experience, 114060, 16622/116622 platinum and 16570 polar are the ones that stand out, but Rolex lume is almost always good.

Some Rolex lume is better than others but overall it’s an absolute joke compared to (for example) a Ball tritium. I have 1 Ball watch and it’s literally like a torch…based on the half life, it’ll be like that for at least 15-20 years..

The problem being is that any ‘charged’ luminescent material emits the vast majority of its energy in the first 10 minutes. Tritium will always be the clear winner.

I think the Vertex M100 is the most easily activated of my watches. The new Explorer is great and so is the YM40. The Pelagos is pretty good too and the Ed White considering it the smaller markers fairs surprisingly well. Here are some of my lume shots

My explorer allows me to read the time in the dark when I wake up, which is all I ask for. But, in terms of brightness, my Seiko diver is outstanding.
