DAD / MOM: What Rolex did you gift 'em?

With gratitude for family, a special gift in celebration of life's moments...

Noticing more posts here on TRF about getting mom and/or dad a Rolex. Would love to hear what they got. Bonus points for wrist pic

My lefty dad got a Destro. He never knew Rolex made one, until....

Fantastic. It is so nice of you.My parents passed away when I was 18. I wish they were still alive and I would have done the same thing.

When I went to college I was fortunate to get $20k from my father to fund school (back in the 90’s). During my first year of the real world, my company give us a nice bonus….so I brought my father a new submariner date. He always wanted one, but would never pull the trigger.

He still has it today and wears it daily - one of the best decisions I ever made.

Got a DJ 41, black diamond dial for my Dad for his 60th birthday about 5 years ago which was awesome. First one I’d ever bought, made the first one I got for myself a year later even more special.

My mother and I weren’t really that close for years. Still a bit hit and miss at times really. Despite that she never really cared for watches or took care of any of the nicer ones she had through the years. They just don’t strike any interest in her.

My father passed away when I was 21. I was super close with him and my 16750 was his until he semi gifted it to me when I was about 16. If he was still alive I absolutely would’ve gotten the new variant for him. He was an amateur pilot and the GMT was his dream watch. He had his but it fell into a bit of neglect and got a bit disheartened at the cost RSC quoted him back in the day compared to a new one.

I got the 16750 fixed later at an independent and retained pretty much all of it of course significantly cheaper than RSC.

Eleven years ago I gave my dad a 16710 GMT Coke for his 70th birthday. He hasn’t taken it off since then (other than a routine RSC service I arranged) and he will be 81 in a few weeks. He loves his 16710. I made a post about it whenever that happened.

I would like to, however my Dad is the biggest tight ar*e in history and would demand it be returned in disgust.

Both gone, they’d be shocked at the extravagance of a Rolex. But my dad left a box of old mechanical watches behind, maybe he’d be proud.

I got my Dad and OP in 2017 for his 60th. He isn’t a guy who would ever buy himself a Rolex, but my god he loves it!

What a dream! I’d be thrilled if my son was in a position to buy me such a beautiful and tasteful gift for my 70th. It wouldn’t leave my wrist until I was being put underground for good!

Bought my father a new 36mm Explorer 114270 about 15 years ago. No special occasion but included a 2 page letter of how thankful I was for the life lessons, love and guidance he's given me over the years. I'll never forget how good that felt and still love seeing it on his wrist.
(Pics next time I see him)

I am originally from Bangladesh. In 1988, my Dad begged, borrowed, worked his tail off to raise $20K to help me fund my travel and first year of college in the US.

I wish Dad was alive for me to do the same for him. He was a huge lover of fine things but never could afford to get anything. A flawed man but the perfect father.

Many wonderful, and heartfelt stories. Please keep 'em coming.

>>> ....A flawed man but the perfect father.<<<

Very touching

PS: After dad got the Destro, we agreed mom should also... so we pitched in together as a family and this is what she picked.
