Smooth bezel meets stainless steel fridge.

Hi,

Just got a brand new DJ 41 and scuffed my bezel on day 3. I was hoping to keep it in mint condition a little longer but such is life. Can I bring this to an AD for a quick fix? Or not worth it and just leave it?

Depends on how much it bothers you! If your AD has a Rolex parts account, they can order a plain DJ bezel for you which one of their resident watch maker can swap for you. If not, it would be a 3-4 weeks trip to RSC.

Polishing takes away metal, very little in the modern polishing methods in general but still I leave my watches natural. If you fix it, how long do you think it will be till it happens again?

Anyone like Rolliworks or similar could fix that right up for you. If it was me I'd hit it with a polishing cloth and wait until service unless it's really noticable live. Then I'd get it fixed and chalk it up to life.

3 days is longer than I've ever made it before banging it on something.

Previously when I've done such things I'd send it for polish or repair and then a week later scratch it again so it's futile.

I'm guessing it only shows in certain light and without the red circle it goes undetected in the wild.

Those bezels are easy to replace and not very expensive. I would leave it be if the crystal isn't damaged. You do what you think is best.

(Though I'd also unplug the fridge for 48 hours: give it a taste of what will happen if it tries this again.)

I’ll be honest, that would bother me and I don’t perceive myself to be too worried about scratches. For me, it’s more about where they are, and that one would stare me in the face every time. YMMV, but I’d get it polished

Leave it and see if you can get over it. Just knowing that it can easily be replaced at an AD could make it easier to bare. You’ll most likely have a few more incidents in the next few months. I know your pain. I chipped the crystal on a three month old Explorer II. You can only feel it with your nail, but I knew it was there. Drove me crazy. Once I found out I can get a new crystal for $100, and time passed, I got over it.

I'd leave it. Sorry it got scuffed, I hate the feeling. It happens but still sucks.

But at least it's in (what I think is) very cool place. My daughter calls it "watchtime." The time watches are set to in professional photos. "10:08"

you will these again and again unless you keep it in the box. I wear mine and I have a few similar scratches/bumps.

So no point getting it polished. It is part of owning and wearing a watch (speaking from experience, it took me almost 10 years to get to this point - before I was exactly thinking like you are :D )

I would probably leave it. Love the white dial DJ. One of my favorites.

That being said a sunshine polishing cloth would probably take it down to be much less noticeable. Usually dings like that look worse than they are and can come out with minimal attention. You really aren’t doing much to the metal with a non aggressive polishing cloth and only the force of your fingers.

You don’t need to do any strenuous outdoor activities to scratch your watch. All it takes is walking around your kitchen .

That would drive me crazy. Take it to get the bezel polished, Had a similar scuff. Took it to my AD, and it was as polished out.

We all have the desire for them to be perfect, but another will follow and chasing scuffs is a waste of time.

I have a smooth DJ41. I believe the above quote is correct. Not that I wouldn't be upset, it's just what happens when you wear/enjoy it.
