New Watch Day (NWD WAS): Explorer II

Well, I pulled the trigger on a new Explorer II at my local AD (after waiting months)…

Already have an older 40mm but wanted to step up to the 42.

I like the new hour and minute hands but the orange hand is going to require some getting used to. Sadly Rolex continues to use a tiny crown on this model well not the 21st century).

Cheers!

Thank you!

The 42’s orange 24 hour hand is going to take some time getting used to as I’ve been wearing a red handed, white dial E2 as a daily driver since '87 (first the 16550 followed by the subsequent newer generations as they were released other than the 216570).

I do like the newer hour and minute hands when compared to that of a 16570, the overall size isn’t an issue and I’ll be the first one queen up at mt AD’s front door when Mr. Wilsdorf and Co. release a 45mm model (my eyes are getting any younger). The bracelet’s great but will probably be replaced with a rubber strap in quick order (I need to do a modicum of research to see if the Sky Dweller’s Oysterflex will fit the 226570).

TBF & TBH, the white face E2 had me from our first hello way back in '87. There have been others over the years, TT Subs, Pepsi GMTs, TT GMTs, an obsession with Daytonas but the polar E2 is home.

Cheers!

Not sure whether to congratulate you picking up this amazing reference or apologize based on your comments

Pick mine up last month.... Amazing piece. Wasn't convinced it would be for me until I was able to actually try it on as an exhibition piece. Instantly expressed my interest and was lucky enough to be allocated it in a few weeks.

Congrats! The orange hand makes the watch. Should be easy to get used to.

Love the e2 polar. It was the first Rolex I had ever seen that caught my eye I had waited 4 years for mine and love it. I have the 216570. How do you like the matte black hand and hour markers? I’m toward between them and the gloss of the 216570. Did you keep your 16570?

Congratulations. I have both the Black dial and Polar Dial version of the last generation Explorer II. One of my favorites and they get a lot of wrist time on my Rolex side of wear. I have actually gotten more wear from the black dial but spring summer just call for the white dial. Enjoy.

Thanks! I’m not opposed to the black dial (I have a 1655 in the safe), but the polar E2’s just speak to me.

Cheers!

No objections thus far and I don’t really notice the larger case when it’s on my wrist (I’m secretly hoping they’ll make me a one off scaled up to at least 45mm but I’m not holding my breath).

Cheers!

Funny how I never really noticed the small crown until you just said that. Looks amazing either way.

Love the EXII.
Worn both 16570 for years and got a 216570 for Christmas. I like it a lot. Much bigger, much bolder, but legibility highly improved.
I also recently got a black 226570 - for some reason, I am not a big fan of the bracelet, looks massive with minimal taper. So probably still need some time there to get used to it, but the 216570 is always on my wrist so good luck 226570

The crown feels somewhat minuscule compared to the Sub and others. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for anybody suffering from neuropathy in their hands.

Had my polar a few months. Really enjoy it; wear as my everyday and also on the road during airline trips. Rolex last tool watch. Enjoy that 42mm beauty!

While there have been others along the way, the white E2’s been my MVP for thee better part of 3 decades.

Oddly enough, the 216570 is the one E2 reference I haven’t owned or worn.
