Rolex Box Identification

Hi,

I hope this is the correct place for this post. Wondering if some more experienced forum members can help me?

I purchased a Rolex Explorer "with box and papers" from a London based dealer in 2015 (I won't name them for now). When I tried to sell my watch recently, it emerged that the box they had sold me with the watch was an older style box (not correct for a 2010 Explorer) and also not authentic.

To put things right, they took the old box back, and provided me with this replacement, which they say is correct for a 2010 Explorer. Now, I'm no expert, but to me, this has all the hallmarks of being a fake too. However, the dealer is insisting it is genuine and that they have been in the business 30 years.

I've attached some pictures. I wonder if you could either help put my mind to rest or confirm my suspicions?

Many thanks in advance.

It looks real to me. One way to tell is the “pillow” stitching. The fakes are terrible and do not come together nicely, this one looks fine.

They took the box back after 8 years? And they accepted it being fake? Weird.

You say that to you the new one has all the hallmarks of being fake too. Can you give examples of what you find suspicious looking?

Mainly the quality of the printing. And maybe the gold Rolex logo on the top? Plus the overall quality of the box, e.g. lining coming away.

If anyone has the same, genuine box, maybe they could post a picture for comparison?

And yes, they did take the other, non-correct, box back and replaced it with this one, but they didn't accept it was fake. It failed eBay authentication, however.

Thanks
