What custom rolex would you choose?
Let's say you pushed the CEO of Rolex out of the way of oncoming traffic and managed to save his life. For putting your life at risk to save his, he is forever grateful. As a reward for your good deed, he turns to you and offers to build you one custom Rolex of your choice. It can be any of the current models (must be a modern reference), but any dial and any metal. What would you have him build?
For example, I would choose a 124270 in white gold. The dial would be made from a cross section of rock from the top of Mount Everest. Anyone want to play along? |

Platinum Sub (i.e. a no date, not a Sub Date) with a flat blue dial, a satin-finished blue ceramic bezel, and fully brushed bracelet. But I'd have to insist it has the older 3130 movement!
Quite a subtle watch I think.

BLRO or BLNR (I like them equally) with the current Submariner case, oyster, steel or white gold.

I want a modern mil Sub.
124060 base model for case/bezel, in SS Fixed bars for nato use(*) Matte dial with painted markers Sword hands 3130 movement for proven reliability in the long term (*)Only part I'd really have to think on there is the fixed bars vs a case with lug holes and shoulderless spring bars...then I could also run a Tropic strap which I do love |

36mm Datejust (smooth, Jubilee) with the white lacquered dial from the 114300 39mm OP.
I am a simple man. |

Stainless steel. Everose would be cool but not for me and I'm no fan of anything YG. WG turns yellow over time, so that's out, and PT is super soft and dulls out easily. I don't know if Rolex has some way of mitigating these issues, but assuming they aren't physics wizards, I'll stick with SS.

Modern 36mm Day Date in White gold with either a onyx dial and no hour markers, or a burlwood dial

Yeah, maybe I'm taking a bit of poetic liberty on this one. Essentially what I am asking for is a WG, blue-dialed GMT in smaller footprint. Maybe the YM1 case is a better concept for that watch.

I would do a GMT Meteorite in WG in a 41 Sub case and definitely with the glidelock.

Stainless steel Day-Date with rotating 12 hour bezel, for the perfect travel watch, like the old Tudor 7020/0.

i'd ask him to recreate the legendary 6542 'Albino' GMT (1:1 modern reissue with the same case proportions and all,) with a matte eggshell white dial; platinum case, platinum jubilee bracelet & roulette date wheel. Lumed bezel like the 6542 but replace the bakelite with sapphire.

Hm. Out of the current models I can’t think of much. Maybe a stainless steel Day Date with no cyclops. Otherwise I’ll just have a 36mm Explorer but with a prior model movement and call it a day.

39mm Submariner, Mk1 green bezel, with a 3130 movement.
It would have a case akin to a 14060M, but with the bracelet and clasp from a 114060. It would also be equipped with a quick release bracelet and a selection of OF style straps for quick and easy changes. |
