Rolex at Sea Cruises

https://robbreport.com/style/watch-c...234851331/amp/

Rolex will open his first store at sea on board Explora 1. Looks like will have chances for allocations.

they are opening showroom on a ship and they are going to pack it with "exhibition only" pieces? they might as well call it "travelling watch exhibition".

I assume Rolex will allocate some pieces to the store. I cannot imagine that all passangers of the 476 cabbins are interested so most likely it will be first come first serve.

This will be interesting to follow. It is yet to be seen on how many watches will be available for sale.

Sounds like the best chance of actually walking in and buying a watch!

Genius. They can now charge 30% more for tickets with all the opportunists booking hoping they'll get a SS Datyona

Great to see we can now be up the creek without paddle and get a “no sorry” when paying thousands for a boat trip.

Probably to push the Rolex certified pre owned watches they can’t sell easily. Brilliant idea.

Pulling up this old thread as I am actually on this boat this week from Athens to Istanbul with several island and mainland stops on the way in northern Greece. Though I'm not in the market, I poked my head into the store and in both the case and the windows there were models running - so I assume not just pure display models unless they shoved ETA movements into them to make them look real. As you'd expect there were a couple of Explorer IIs as well as some other SS models including a Sea-Dweller and then a few other OPs in SS and 2-Tone or PM Datejusts. There was also a cookie monster but if I had that kind of spare $ I'd buy and old smurf anyway. But this is a real thing and worth it - our 7 night cruise is about 4K per pax for a small suite for 2 people and totally worth it - food is awesome - think high end restaurants not buffets - it's all inclusive unless you want something like a 20 YO Macallan. But if you're looking for a vacation and want to pick up a new watch at retail while doing it, it makes sense to me. There's also Panerai and Cartier shops right next to Rolex.

I think I mentioned this previously. We were on a Virgin cruise a few months ago. They had several Rolex models for sale, at around double the gray market price.

One standout was a stainless and gold Datejust from the 90s, with an aftermarket diamond bezel. Asking price was around $17,000, if I remember correctly. Prices were negotiable.

We’ve been on cruises before with Rolex’s for sale at inflated prices

These are all new. But no, not a GMT or Daytona (in sight at least). I did not ask prices as I don't want to waste their time but I imagine it's retail for whatever they are selling for in GR.

I’ve seen a few videos on YouTube and some threads elsewhere showing submariners and GMTs in SS on the Explora ship and all available

They have been selling Rolex on board Cruise Ships for years. Usually older models and geared to the older traveler.

Nothing new here, unless they suddenly stock them with new pieces, but those would likely be TT and pm DJ's

Makes perfect sense Larry! It would be a great outlet for an AD with a ton of CPO pieces on a cruise ship. Kind of like that used watch dealer with the brick-and-mortar store in Branson, MO. Perfect market for the codgers!

This is an official Rolex AD. All new pieces and not CPO. The watches are made for available for sale to passengers. I’ve heard it’s one per traveller maximum

Op is correct. It is an official dealer so technically it is new

I’m sure there will be a list to be put on, then on your next cruise or the one after you can pick up your watch… :(

Anyone that has been on the cruise, can you share the process etc? Obviously, there is a small segment that even would like a Rolex. Of course, anyone on the ship could afford it if they wanted one. But there is no way Rolex is stocking this boutique every week to fully accommodate demand if a ton of people wanted one.
