Olive Dialled DD - Desirable

How sought after/desirable is the rose gold olive dialled day-date?

I've been offered one at RRP much much faster than expected, weeks rather than a year or so, but have never seen it, and it's going to cause some short term pain.

If I wound up with buyers remorse (improbable) I assume I could move it along easily?

I'm lucky enough to have a rootbeer, a bluesy and a yachtmaster. I think because this is soooo much more expensive it's not sitting as well as I'd like.

demand is still pretty high for them and realistically they should be getting discontinued at some point given that it's an anniversary dial. i think you'll be able to get your money back at worst case so it should be a risk free buy if you like the watch. best case you can make some on it. they're in the 50s currently so figure you'll probably get at least mid 40s for it (which is msrp + tax) if you decide you don't like it right off the bat

one of the nicest watches in the catalogue imo and if you want a DD i would definitely go for it

Go try it on and spend some time in front of an AD mirror. I think it's beautiful and I think you will like it. The only person it's desirability should matter to is you. (although I do validate not wanting to take a bath on it if you decide to move on eventually)

It's the bath that worries me if I had to move it on. the reason I may have to move it on is simply because making the $$$ stack up requires me to sell some stuff. if that stuff doesn't sell this would have to go instead.

I think this is my one chance to grab this model which I find very desirable.

It'll do in a pinch. In my opinion is the question of whether you desire it as a watch more than as a collectible. Wearing mine now.

Go for it. I have this and it my absolute favorite. I doubt you will have buyers remorse but it so, you shouldn't lose money if you sell

I'm only interested in this as a watch to wear/enjoy. I am not thinking about it as an investment or a quick flip.

If I ignore the "want" I think there's three issues gnawing at me.

Firstly it's just a very very large mount of money. Over 2.5 times what I've spent before.

Secondly I suppose the timing isn't great, but given it may get discontinued do wonder if this is my only opportunity. Financially its doable via savings and if I sell my old Submariner that I never wear and don't really like. I'd rather this was happening in a year when I could have sold more stuff and saved more. But as I say above, I do feel like if I turn it down I'll miss the boat given how hard these things seem to be to procure.

Thirdly it feels selfish.

I guess if I love it I have 4 others I can move on. Rootbeer GMT that my mate wants, new Bluesy, YM and the Sub.

Its feeling very circular.

I do really love them.

It’s a beautiful watch; I’d suggest you try it on and see how you like it. Rolex RG tends to have a more pinkish hue to it, IMO, so seeing it on your wrist and how it looks with your skin tone may be a big help.

You’ll know right away if it’s for you or not, and can maneuver accordingly.

They still command a premium on the secondary, so if purchased at retail, you’d get upper-mid-40’s for it if that’s the route you show to take after purchasing, but ultimately not liking it.

I say get it and figure the rest out afterwards. Look at it this way:

-If you get it and then have second thoughts, you can always more or less reverse the transaction and unload it without a problem.
-If you don't get it and have second thoughts, there's no getting another one anytime soon from an AD at retail, if at all.

In reading your comments, it seems to me that the biggest issue you’re facing is that the price is out of your mental comfort zone to spend on a single watch and it’s coming at a time that isn’t ideal.

I’d say go in and try it on, and if you absolutely love it, go for it. If you don’t absolutely love it, pass.

You’ll likely get your money back if you flipped it fairly soon but I’m thinking (speculation only) that prices are going to continue to decline….and if that happens, your window of opportunity to get your money back may be shorter than anticipated (although if it gets discontinued that will keep the price up). Also, keep in mind that selling to a grey dealer is way less headache than selling directly to a third party and in doing so, they will add in their profit margin that is generally around 25% or so.

no one would be able to tell you the probability or what rolex will/won't do. they always do whatever they want but generally anniversary dials get discontinued. people have expected it for a few years now though and so far nothing has happened

No one knows and who cares. Besides, in this market we have seen little change in price to discontinued models. Just ask the Milgauss and the 116 Daytonas. Even the JM Daytona had an initial spike to only come right back down to its pre-disco price. Or close enough.

Honestly the hype has died down. Its going to get worse and worse.

All this flipping and investment speculation is slowly dying. Buy it if you want it - its really that simple.

I remember just before Covid selling one to a client for £60m and that was a bargain.

They want out of it now and cant get £36k. So at that point new is probably a far better option

After reading through this post it sounds like you love this watch. I hope that when you put it on in the AD it "clicks" for you and you absolutely love it on wrist!

Who knows, maybe you can slim down your collection some, if that's what you WANT to do, and wear a PM DD as a daily.

No one can predict the future value. The best you can do is hope that there will be recovery in the Rolex values. In the meantime enjoy what you've got and wear it. If the price is too high then pass and get something you feel more comfortable with. Maybe a Mint DJ41.
