When showing your Collections, Do You just leave out the Lower End Pieces?

Hey fellow watch lovers. I notice when folks show their collections, they only include high end Swiss brands. So, in my case, I would include my 3 Rolexes and my Tudor. But I have a lot of watches (over 100), and many of them are really nice, including some mid tier Swiss brands, such as Rado and a vintage Omega, among others. Some of my more expensive Seikos are stunning pieces. So, I wonder do others have lower end hidden gems in their collections? Aside from my modern pieces, I collect vintage Seikos, that I have completely restored, and they run flawlessly. Do any of you collect the way I do, or am I an outlier?

I leave them in. If I have stuff I don’t think belongs in the collection I sell it. With that said, you have to know your audience.

I think watches like, “the first watch I bought” or ones that have a story are always interesting to see regardless of what it is; even if it’s a G Shock or a Timex Ironman.

I wouldn't even have a camera capable of taking a picture of a collection like yours Nurse Kat!

Over 100 watches is impressive and a testament to how much you enjoy and value the hobby in it's purest form.

Personally, I have had some more economy minded pieces in the past, but they never last. Maybe I am getting overly picky or spoiled as I wade through my 50's, but my sweet spot for entry is in the Tudor/entry level Omega/ GS range.

I tend to show my more expensive pieces, but I do show some of my lower end pieces due to the uniqueness. e.g. I have the first year release of the Tag Aquaracer. One is the first ones released that has professional on the dial before they changed it to Aquaracer.
I too had up to 40-50 watches I had collected, but working to trim it down. I mostly give them to younger family members who appreciate a $100-$300 dollar watch.

My least expensive mechanical watch is a Pelagos. I don’t love “cheap” watches, so below that price point I just wear my Garmin.

I'm proud of my lower end pieces as much as I'm proud of my higher end pieces, but when showing the collection, I post the Rolex and Tudor watches, because that's the forum where those requests show up.

When I post on the WRUW threads, I post whatever watch I'm wearing, low end or high end.

I did post a picture of all my watches once and one person said that they were mostly "shitters," so I don't bother with that shot anymore.

Coming from a fairly humble background. I really don’t have anything worth while.

The ones I don’t really include in the collection are all older Seiko and Citizen quartz pieces for the most part. Many gold plated and that plating wearing off. Honestly stuff that’s probably best suited for the bin but still have some strange nostalgic attachment to them.

Weirdly even more I kinda want to fix and wear them again. Cheap worthless watches, but the memories of what got me into it all.

Well, I started out on the very low end and gradually moved up, but yes, it was a crude response.

I still do buy cheap watches, though. My only criteria are if I like the watch and if I can afford it.

I think there is a big difference between "owned" and "collected" watches.

In my opinion, owning a lot of watches doesn't mean a collection, it makes only "a lot of watches". I think, a collection is MORE than that. It says something about the purpose, the story of the collection, the watches individually and in general, because it is already about the person who created and maintains the collection.

For example, I have Rolexes, Omegas, and two limited edition CWs will arrive, but they do not constitute a collection in my opinion, even if each of these has a story. But I have a "collection" which consists of so called "cheap" quartz Seiko watches. But even it looks "cheap" for the first sigth, because a lot of people thinks, anyone can buy these, they are all wrong. It can't be done so easily because it took years to collect the few ones that could be found. So this little collection has it's own story My story. History

Of course, it is true that people mostly look for "expensive" or "exclusive" watches in a so called collection, but honestly this depends on social class. Some people find a collection worth a few tens of thousands of dollars a miracle, while others collects hundreds of thousands of watches. But where is the top level? All of this are nothing, as there are multi-million watch collections, right? This is not a competition, and mostly because there are always ones whose collections are more far more expensive and from that point of view, ours are just attempts to gather some "entry-level" lots.

That's why we don't have to worry about others, just ourselfs and enjoy what we have achieved. To smile on all of our beloved precious watches

I’ve always loved mechanical watches, especially divers. I liked the somewhat unique look of this and it had a Seiko movement. It’s what I could afford at the time and I put it through some good wear/tear and it ticks away now the same it did 10 years ago when I got it.

No I don’t usually show it because I never wear it and the brand can inspire some negativity.

But for the heart in this thread, here ya go :)

Not too many quartz, maybe a handful. All my Seikos are autos. The Marathon is a quartz, but brand new. The Magnum, P. I. Momentum quartz is also new. I forgot to mention my Hamiltons.
One is quartz. Several watches are hand winders. All the micro brands are autos.

That’s actually a decent looking diver.
I bought an Invicta diver years ago, for one of my sons. They do seem to have a bad wrap, among watch enthusiasts.

There's more of them plus a few, for want of a better description, "Medium Range" watches. I particularly like Tags Heuers. They all get wrist time and a few of them have made their way into my wife's collection. Like me, she puts fun before flex and can do cheap and cheerful just as happily as aspirational luxury. And it won't break your heart (so much) of you bash them.
