FS: Rolex Explorer I Ref. 114270 F Series w/ Papers
The Rolex Explorer is always in the conversation for those looking for one watch to do it all. Something precise yet durable, elegant yet rugged, and exceptionally versatile. The Explorer looks at home on the wrist whether it's in a board room or on the beach, and carries a half-century historical lineage.
The Explorer was upgraded with the introduction of the reference 14270 in 1989 as the replacement for the legendary reference 1016 Explorer with some big shoes to fill, and it did just that. The dial retained the familiar 3-6-9 layout and is a wonderfully balanced symmetric design, now finished in gloss with applied markers underneath a sapphire crystal. The reference 114270 pictured here further improved on the modern Explorer, adding an upgraded Caliber 3130 movement solid end link bracelet. The watch offered here is an excellent all-original example, showing a very sharp case and fantastic glossy black dial. It also comes with the original papers which are unnamed and un-dated but stamped by the original selling dealer in Amsterdam. This Explorer is an F series, indicating production circa 2003-04. Condition is per the photos and as follows: Case: 36mm stainless steel case in excellent condition as pictured. The case is sharp with crisp edges and sharp brushing with only minor signs of wear. Crown screws down securely. Serial and reference numbers are both visible and crisp. Bezel: Original stainless steel polished bezel in excellent condition as pictured. Dial/Hands: Original black gloss SuperLuminova dial (green lume) with applied markers free of any marks or damage. The original hands are also excellent. Caseback: Original caseback in excellent condition as pictured. Crystal: Original sapphire crystal with Laser Etched Crown at 6 o'clock. The crystal is free of any scratches or chips. Movement: Rolex caliber 3130 automatic movement with hacking. The movement is in excellent condition although service history is unknown. All functions work as they should. Bracelet/Strap: Original 78690 solid end link (SEL) bracelet in excellent condition as pictured with only minor wear. Clasp shows an extremely sharp coronet. Bracelet should fit to a 7.5" wrist comfortably. Box/Papers/Accessories: The original punched papers are included as pictured. The papers are unnamed and undated but are stamped by the original selling dealer in Amsterdam. Price is $5,700 USD shipped insured FedEx overnight CONUS via wire transfer. US sales are preferred, international sales will pay the cost of shipping. Face-to-face in the Boston area is also welcome. I have many references available and have been active on this and other forums for many years buying and selling. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am mostly not interested in trades. Thanks for looking! |
