Incoming Day-Date

Of the Eastern variety. ;)

From a little watch shop in Bunkyo, the SBGT021. It houses the 9F83 movement. Around 36.5 in diameter with a L2L span of around 42, it is on the smaller side - but the unique bracelet which starts at 19 and only tapers down to 18 gives it some presence.

The dial is gorgeous - a deep, dark black that is actually matte and appears more of a charcoal in some lighting. It reminds me of the dial of my gone but not forgotten 39mm Explorer in that regard, but frankly this dial pops far more than my Explorer's did. The hour markers are of the "striated" variety and the minute markers are actually applied (!) and polished. It is an incredibly legible dial and the way the markers sparkle in the light against the black background is really special.

Thanks everyone, from what I can gather I believe this one went into production in the mid aughts? I'm very impressed by the feel on the wrist, it punches far far above its weight - particularly since I believe I only paid roughly half of what the watch retailed for new.

Very nice, Matthew, congratulations. Yes the SBGT021 and SBGT2015 were introduced in 2004 and I believe replaced in 2010 by the SBGT037 and SBGT035. Your particular watch was produced in December 2006

Beautiful looking watch.

Wish they’d make a mechanical day date with the new dual impulse movement.
