Buying a Rolex post-Xmas?

Hello everyone!

Now that we have entered the Christmas slump week (aka what do I do after Christmas but before NYE), I was wondering if anyone had any good experiences in getting the watch they wanted during this week? Are ADs more open to selling pieces or do they wait to the new year?

I'm after the SS DJ 36 so not sure how my luck will fare, especially as my immediate choices for ADs are Goldsmiths

Thanks!

With the price increase due on 01/01/24 I would try to buy asap to save yourself a little bit of money

Walked into an AD on Christmas Eve having bought an OP39 from them 8 years previously and walked out with GMT II BLNR on a jubilee.

My US market is probably pretty similar to your’s. For years it’s been said that RolexSA takes off a couple of weeks after New Year’s and so does the RolexUSA distributor. Our dealers typically receive some bonus stock for Christmas if their sales goals have been met, I’m pretty sure my dealer is pretty much out of watches for this year. Oh, they’ll have some exhibition models and will keep talking with clients but actual deliveries for the next few weeks will be limited to those they’ve held for people.

The factories are currently shut down, so now is not a good time to buy a new one.
And it’s not a particularly good time to buy a used one either. Black Friday is better.

Half of my AD incomings have come in the month of December, most of those a few days before Christmas. I have never received the AD call between January and March. The first quarter of a year certainly seems dead for me.

Thanks, my original OP39 Grape was a walk in at the same AD but that was nearly 9 years ago and I could have walked out with any of the three colours then.
I was then lucky enough to get a Hulk as a walk in a year later at a different AD. That dealer said they’d given up on the list because so many people were backing out when they were called.

Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket?

Or quite a bit of money.

Skimming the Oisin O' Malley vid, it looks some pieces may climb by up to $1500. Of course, that was in Euros in the Italian market, but I'm sure we will see commensurate changes.

“…if Sales goals have been met…”. If the goal is for the AD to sell watches, then the mothership is doing it wrong.

It doesn’t seem to be letting me make posts with quotes for some reason.

What AD(s)(or area) did you visit, I think I need your luck! That being said I went to Copenhagen a few weeks back and got offered the OP Grape at Buchrer

This sums up the US market at year end very well.

Press, the quill and parchment symbol in the bottom, right of a message. It will take you to the bottom of the screen to type a message, check the checkbox on the very bottom that says quote message in reply?

You should have no problem buying that at an AD if you go to all the ones close to you, or buy for less pre owned. I would do option 2

I am not saying I don’t believe you but it is hard to imagine an AD having a hard time finding a buyer for a BLNR. Certainly an impossible thought in the States.

That was for the Hulk 8 years ago. They were putting it in the window as I was walking past. I immediately went in and asked if it was for sale or if they were operating a list, the dealer said they’d stopped bothering with the list as they could sell the hot watches straight out of the window.

The dealer for the BLNR has a list but the watch was for my 50th birthday and I also bought a gift for my wife so the dealer said I could either take the exhibition model or wait for the summer when he’d make sure I got one. I was very much of the mind that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush so I took it.
