2004 Oyster Perpetual Datejust diamond bezel REAL?

Received watch as a gift. It weighs 115g, appears to have a laser crown etched on the crystal, the second hand sweeps, but at like 4 small movements per second. The haute seems to have the letters line up to the minute marks, except one "x" looks possibly of center. The serial number is F181599. It feels solid, no sharp edges, has a screw-in cap that works properly. When adjusting the date, the date rolls over around 11:54pm. Has a legit looking box but no paperwork.

Is this real? Or not?

Google "Rolex serial F181599" and see how many hits pop up. Now ask yourself, are you the one person that has the real Rolex with a unique serial number or if you have one of the many counterfeits with the same serial number? Also, that dial font is crazy fat.

If you have issues identifying this watch as a counterfeit, you should consider to not buy luxury watches from the gray market at all.

What you have here, is a 70$ replica at best, its not even close to the real watch. It would be futile to talk about „tells“, the whole watch ist wrong. If you ever come across a high end counterfeit or franken watch, we can talk…

Look, I got it as a gift and it's not my thing. I was hoping to flip it to get cash to pay bills, but I wanted to make sure it was real (which apparently it's not). I understand there's a lot of "cork sniffing" when it comes to watches, but my most expensive watch I've ever had is a fitbit. I don't know Rolexs--at all. I watched several YouTube videos and read several articles, and I'm truly unsure of it's real or not. I just want to know why, for sure, that it's fake. Is it like a gestalt thing that "you just know"? I honestly don't get it. The serial number thing? Is that it? The font? How are you so certain when it looks to me like all the other ones from AD pics?

I'm completely ignorant of luxury watches and frankly am not interested in them. I got this as a gift, and I just wanted to cash it out to pay bills. The only substantive and objective (and helpful) reply I've gotten is that the serial number is a known fake, and the font (for the numbers? Or the words?) is too thick. I appreciate the rest of you cork sniffers telling me it's a fake, but before I give up on my dream of paying down some debt, I want to know for SURE that it's a fake and why. I'm an engineer--it's in my DNA to understand how things are made and how they work. I'm inquisitive (and hoping I'm sitting on a $15k watch!).

I would be suspect of the person that gave you this fake watch as a gift.

F181599 is a known serial number used on fakes. There are so many things wrong with the watch that it took me all of about 10 seconds to determine that it was fake. It isnt even a good fake.

Purchase a cheap diamond tester off amazon or go to a jeweler and have them check the stones. Typically fake diamonds = fake watch.

I am convinced it's a fake, so thank you to the three posters who replied with actual information, instead of just chest beating and hooting. Things I've noticed as someone who knows nothing about Rolexs:

The VI looks a tiny bit crooked
The laser crown has one part that is really long and it's not made of dots
The date flips at 11:54, not midnight
One of the "x"s in the haute is not lined up with the minute mark
The haute engravings don't look very deep
(As mentioned by others) the serial number is a known fake
Real ones don't usually have diamonds on the lugs
It weighs 115g, which seems light

What you're missing is that the forum intentionally has a rule preventing in depth discussion in this case.

Additionally, we have MANY folks who come by with VERY similar stories to yours saying, "is this a fake, why?" because they are trying to use the commenters on this forum as QC for a watch they know is fake. Commenters don't want to support the people trying to develop fakes, so are intentionally vague beyond, "yep, obviously fake".

The first question I might ask myself is if the giver is liquid enough to just hand me a 50,000 dollar watch - very unlikely.
