Explorer II (16570) text on dial variations
Hello!
I spotted a 16570 for sale and thought something didn't sit quite right with the dial so asked the seller about it. Apparently the dial was swapped by an AD during service (from black to white). But the text alignment doesn't look like a regular 16570 dial, at least the ones I've seen. The "II" on the second row seems to extend to the left of the D in "DATE". I have no reason to believe the seller is being dishonest in any way but was curious as to this -- did certain years or certain servicedials have a slightly different text alignment? I have pics but unfortunately am not allowed to post them or links due to being a new user. But the left "I" in "II" is entirely to the left of the "D" above. If anyone PMs me I can maybe send the link in a PM. |

Are there any papers of the service history since the seller knows? Is it a private seller, watchmaker reselling or AD? Here's a little about dials on 16570 https://www.fratellowatches.com/buyi...orer_ii_16570/ |

OK, I got the same error trying to attach files but it might've been that I was quoting a message that had a link in it... trying again!
edit: private seller but claims to have servicepapers from AD |

Explorer II (16570) text on dial variations
I'm sorry to say you are right - the dial has anomalies that indicate a reprinted dial. But the buyer should also open it up with a watchmaker's help to check the movement too.

Looks funky. The bottom left of the A should be right between the "sticks" (II). I would pass. The market is flooded with these right now so why not wait for a better example.

Yeah, it just seemed a bit off. And now that I look closer at it, the "O" in both "OYSTER" and "EXPLORER" seems less rounded than on other dials. More square-ish somehow.
