Batman or YM40

Hi Guys,

Over the last 1 year or so, I have been putting my name for interest list at different ADs but none of them calling me. So I think, this is the time to go to grey market.

I am dilemma between Batman or blue dial YM40. Both looks amazing to me but unsure which one should I go first.

Batman:
+ Good looking watch.
+ High demand model (I did not put this model with AD as I think chance is slim)
- 3 or 4 years old unit will costs about 1.5x of MSRP.

YM40:
+ Good looking watch as well especially the blue dial.
+ 2-3 years pre own is close as MSRP making it value for money.

What do you think guys? Which 1 should I go first?

the blnr, without a doubt..

to me, the yacht master is nothing but a glorified submariner with an inferior water resistance.

The ‘Batman’ is a good looking watch as you say. However the YM40 with a blue dial is an AWESOME looking watch!!

It wears incredibly well, & looks epic in either a casual or formal situation. I wouldn’t swap mine for any GMT to be honest.

Man that’s a tough choice but out of the two I’d go for the Batman

I’ve owned and love both. Between the two, I’d choose the BLNR.

The BLNR hands down. The YM is a nice watch but there is a reason it is selling where it is. Nothing wrong with the watch, just demand is not there. Remember it is not only purchase price, it is resale/trade value and the BLNR is much better there. Good luck.

Unless you need or want the GMT complication it would be YM40 for me.

Between the two, then I would take the BLNR. The YM looks stunning as well and truly fantastic in person

If you like them equally and you intend to own both I would go for the one that is easiest or least expensive to obtain. Anecdotal reports suggest the BLNR will be less easy to get at MSRP but you can never be 100% certain of that. I was offered one on a walk in mid 2020. Sometimes you can be in the right place at the right time.

I too am waiting on a GMT or YM, from my AD, except my choices are the TT Root Beer, and the Rhodium dial YM.

A couple weeks ago, my AD offered me the blue dial YM. I tried it on, STUNNING, but I declined, and asked him to sell it to someone who wanted the blue, and I will wait for the Rhodium. I hope I didn't make a mistake, it is one helluva piece, and if the Rhodium didn't exist, would have bought it in a heart.

In the OP's case here I'd go fo the Batman.

I used to own both and this question is as close to a slam dunk answer as exists on this forum...the BLNR 100% full stop. It is harder to buy for a reason, IMO it is a much better watch:)

Wow, nice pair. The YM you own there is the one I'm waiting on. Both of these watches are hot.

BLNR on jubilee for sure. If it’s on an Oyster, I’d still go with the BLNR, but it’s a lot closer of a contest.

There is no better or worse watch here. Both are shine in their own right.
I owned the BLNR for 8 years and I currently have the YM40 blue dial.
If you really need the GMT complication and value the all-time classic looks, then the BLNR is for you. Similarly, if you go with the hype, hard to get, and the resale story, then the BLNR is the obvious choice. On the other hand, if you like the understated elegant looks, the case shape, and appreciate the platinum bezel, the YM is an amazing piece.
Just follow your heart!

I used to own both as well, and agree, the BLNR 'Batman' is the winner if you have to choose one.

I like both, but my vote has to go the Batman. The Rolex GMT is very iconic, and the YM, whilst beautiful, to me personally looks a bit like a mish-mash. Somehow, however, YG on Oysterflex is a watch I really love.

Maybe I'm biased as today I pulled the trigger on a Sprite GMT. I too went grey after waiting for a long time.

The blue dial Yacht Master is a stunning piece. However, I still love my first Rolex, which was this Yacht Master. The Batgirl I acquired in January of this year.

Can't go wrong with either, but the Batgirl/Batman is harder to get from an AD. I would go Batgirl/Batman first from an AD and maybe source the Yacht Master on the grey market. Like you said, the Yacht Master is trading around MSRP on the grey. You can get that at any time. The Batgirl/Batman is trading much higher on the grey market than MSRP. If you can get it from an AD, you're saving yourself a chunk of change. That's just my $.02.

I owe the YM40 in slate.

Wife gave it to me. Won't have been a watch that I would have bought myself.

But i have to say it's grown on me. It's a little understated. I like the PCL.

The blue YM is a little flashier.

YM gets my vote.

The YM40 dresses more elegantly whilst still being sporty. To me the BLNR is more sporty with a more casual appeal, I don’t think the jubilee suits the profile personally.

So the YM wins for me.
