Rolex retail prices - confusing internal logic?
I was browsing the Rolex website today to remind myself what the actual RRP is on certain “hot” models. It seems that a green bezel sub date is £100 more than a pepsi bezel GMT at RRP. It is also £450 more than the black bezel sub date. Setting aside secondary market prices how can that be when the GMT has an additional complication? Surely the green bezel is no more difficult to manufacture than the red/blue - also the premium for green versus black seems high for just a (single) bezel colour change, perhaps they make these in much lower quantities - what are peoples thoughts?
RRP prices: Sub date black: £9000 GMT red/blue (oyster): £9350 Sub date green: £9450 |

Submariner has a more complicated bracelet and maybe the GMT complication isn't that complicated as a modification to the usual movement.
Submariner will also have a thicker caseback adding to the cost. Or maybe there is no logic, it's just what Rolex feel like doing. |

I would also assume that there is some element of scale. If they are making (relatively) fewer green bezels, unit cost is likely higher.

No logic. It’s collectible jewelry. You don’t pay for function. If you want function you just use an iPhone or gshock for time telling.

could it have something to do with the water resistance? 100m vs 300m technology/design could have differing costs.

The LVC is $100 CAD more expensive than the BLRO on Oyster and $200 cheaper that the BLRO on Jubilee here in Canada

Glide lock bracelet, 300m water resistant, triplock crown plus extra for green bezel, pretty straightforward reasons

Nothing it priced on how much it cost to make or what it is made of.
The GMT has historically been priced below the Sub, regardless of the extra hand, but since the ceramic releases and rising popularity of the GMT, they have switched pricing status. Same with the green one; increased popularity, increased price status - economics 101.
