Help Needed to identify Vintage Watch

I have the following Rolex which I am unable to identify. Any help would be appreciated.

Does it work, does it keep time?

If the case back is to be believed, this could be a very early version, according to the patent engraving. So maybe pre 1940.

Have no idea of value. Early versions with patent pending in popular references have big premiums. But these would trade quite low.
