1960s Rolex Day Date 1803 HELP
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you can take a look at the dial from this watch and let me know if everything looks good. I just recently bought this Day-Date from SwissWatchExpo, it was my first one, but compared to every other 1803 I see out there, the font on my looks really off, especially the bottom text. Not sure if this was the quality control back then, or the dial is just wrong. Any advice and opinions I would appreciate it. Thanks, |

I think it looks OK, just like the font on my former 1803 from 1964. See below.
I'd be more concerned about the several blackened tritium dots and thin lugs, from a condition standpoint. Shine a UV light on the dial and see what it looks like. |

Thanks for the reply! The dots are good, it's just that they wore down after time, it appears.
I actually just took it today to Lenox (Authorized Rolex Dealer) in CT and I got it certified with an Appraisal. They had their Rolex Watch Maker, open it up, look at the whole thing, authenticate it and give me an appraisal report for the watch and signed it. So I should be all set with the Authorized Rolex Dealer Certification. |

The dial does have several missing lume dots. That is a common occurrence.
The AD issued an appraisal of the watch for you - did they mention the dial's condition in their appraisal? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

They did not. They just listed the dial and type on the appraisal, and gave me an appraisal value of $9k.
They put other stuff on it, like the serial, reference model, etc. Signed it for me and sent me on my way. Just happy I got my piece of mind from an authorized rolex dealer that is all legit. Everything checked out good. The case, dial, buckle, movement, etc. |
