Celebration Dial

What are your thoughts on the celebration dial as far as gaining value over the long haul as a collector watch? Love it or hate it, I feel like it's going to hold it's value in the gray market and of course increase if they discontinue it...but I could also be totally wrong lol Personally, i like it. I like the fact that it's a very un-Rolex, Rolex, and that's what draws me to it. I'd be willing to pay gray market prices if i thought I would at worst, be able to sell for what i paid. Anyway, I know this is all hypothetical, just looking to see what others think.

Absolutely no one can answer “future value” questions. Personally, I wouldn’t buy one at half MSRP.

We don’t really talk about values. We are enthusiasts. The vast majority of us buy watches to wear them, and aren’t concerned if they gain or lose value. We do get bored of some, and so sell them, usually at a loss, then put the money toward another watch we like better, at that moment. If you want to talk Rolexes, that’s fine. If you want to speculate about monetary gain or loss, you’ve come to the wrong place. I like the Celebration dial. It’s fun. If I can get one from my AD, I will. I don’t deal in the grey market, lately.

I like it and have asked for one, but not with any thoughts to “value.”
If I get one for MSRP from the AD I will wear it along with my others. If I don’t, I won’t get one, no reseller price for me.

I liked it and asked for one the day it came out. I liked how it was fun and pretty polarizing from the typical watch Rolex would release. It remains to be seen if I’ll get one.

All very good points, and I realize this is an "enthusiast" community, however I still like to have an idea if my thousands of dollar purchase is likely to hold value or lose value. Especially since I have no chance of getting one at MSRP. That's just my personality. I like the watch, but honestly I would only justify dropping that kind of money on ANY watch that I like, if I think it's a good value. Same thing with cars, I like Porsche, but I got one because it holds it's value. Maybe I'm crazy lol Anyway, just tossing around getting one...we shall see.

Exactly! That's what draws me to it, it's not your typical Rolex. It's quirky, fun, and I enjoy looking at the dial. It's fun to not be so serious all of the time and that's what this represents to me...a serious brand, having fun!

Please , value is part of consideration, it’s not a big deal if it’s important to you. Each person buys a watch they like and if he needs to sell, trade later, that’s your choice. At that moment, value it’s good to have as might help with next purchase, whether it’s another watch or something else or just want cash. It’s your own choice.

Celebration is actually great. It’s fun and I get many many compliments even if some don’t know it’s Rolex .

Those that hate it, don’t have to buy or worry about it l, or its price.

I don’t know about the vast majority, but I imagine plenty of people on the forum do care whether a watch gains or loses value. People here didn’t earn their own money by not being wise investors or prudent in some manner, so it would seem that a lot keep an eye on the watch market—whether their intention is to keep the watches for themselves or pass treasured timepieces on to their children (as I do). The Celebration dial is a divisive watch that is a hit or miss; some love and some don’t. As for future value, it’s hard to say. The SS Daytona couldn’t be given away at first and now it’s the most desirable Rolex. The Hulk? Sat forever in display cases and now fetches a considerable premium. Don’t know what the future holds but . . .

Ultimately, I would only buy a watch if you really love the watch and want to wear it, not as an investment because, as for that, no one knows.

Yes, thank you!! My setiments exactly. I'm always aware when posting about value here that I'll get the occasional, "we don't care about value, we just like Rolex" reply, and that's fine. You do you and I'll do me. Nice to see someone like yourself understands my perspective. Of course I like the watch, but that's just not where my thought process ends when making pricey (to me) purchases.

Totally hear you. It's so interesting reading about past models that you literally couldn't give away and are now top collectibles. Keeps things fun and interesting for sure!

When it first came out, I wasn't too sure, but man has it grown on me. The more people that hate it, the more i love it lol Seeing some of these high-resolution photos that make it almost as if you're seeing it in person, it's a striking watch in my opinion and the psychology behind it is even more intriguing.

I know it’s a polarizing dial, but I’d guess more people like it, than not. We should do a pole. I don’t know how to set one up, but someone should start one. It would be interesting to see if I’m right. I think I’ve noticed more enthusiasm, than disdain, for this dial.

If you can get one from the AD it would definitely be worth it but buying on the grey market for an investment in my honest opinion is a bit of a gamble. If you do plan to wear it then it is worth it but solely as an investment might be too risky. I do seem to like it myself, it is quirky and fun!

Investing entails some form of production from one’s capital. Think crops from farmland, dividends from equities, or revenue from businesses. Watches do not produce anything, therefore, the word “invest” should be replaced with “speculate” in regards to watches.

Ask yourself, years from now what would cause people to want this watch even more than they do today?

Perhaps throw the money into a brokerage account and buy something you can actually enjoy for much less.

If you pay grey don’t expect to make vast fortune selling in future, if in it for a profit is your thing you may make a bit but I doubt a great deal … if you like it to wear then enjoy it …

My journey started with wanting both the green and celebration OP dials....was lucky enough to obtain the green 41mm from my AD but he was adamant that the Celebration would be very much tougher....

As many have stated the dial is polarizing due to the fact of its very unique style, one which I very much like, plus if I'm being honest enjoy the rarity factor as well...

Waited for W&W 2024 hoping it would not get discontinued as my theory was that hard to obtain models such as the Celebration, Pepsi, titanium yachtmasters etc. would reduce in price on the gray market immediately afterwards and be slightly easier to obtain as folks who bought them to sell hoping they would be discontinued would try to recoup as much money as they could once it was established that these models would not be discontinued....

So after W&W 2024, hit my trusted grey market dealer buddies and managed to work out a great deal (for a grey market purchase given previous prices before W&W 2024) on both a 41mm for me and ended up picking a 31mm for my daughters gradution gift...

When I picked them up the watches last week, dealer had readily available a 36mm Celebration which I also picked up for the wife....all 3 watches dated March/April and as I expected dealer had seen quite a few more in April and May than usual.....

In terms of value, as others have noted I bought these as a watch enthusiast, however I did take the time to 'strategize' purchasing them as noted above to get the best possible price given the circumstances...and while future value fluctuations don't really bother me at this point as I won't be selling these watches, the only thing that would give me concern is if there was a complete watch market crash...

Have to agree hype sells watches today as many buy the hype to wear it not my cup of tea and would never buy one at any price.

My personal opinion on the watch is I think it looks hideous. I'd rather buy a $100 Swatch if I wanted something that looks like a toy.

Value? Seems like anytime Rolex makes something quirky and discontinues it, it later becomes a sought-after model.

My only suggestion, like others have said, is buy what you like and will wear. Don't get hung up on collectibility.
