Rolex withdrawal syndrome?

I was on vacation with family in Europe and brought only my G-Shock at my wife’s insistence. It was 2 weeks long and I started to miss not having my Rolex on my wrist. I miss the heft feeling. Almost like withdrawal symptoms. Why didn’t i wear my Rolex……?

Last year we were in Europe and I had my Hulk with me. Needless to say the watch attracted attention of some locals. Two men followed us around and proceeded to sit next to me at a food stall. They started asking questions like where I am from, how long I am staying, and what hotel. They never order any food.

Well in over 50 years of wearing Rolex watches world wide you could count on one hand the number that have made any comment on the watch I was wearing.

Rolex withdrawal syndrome?

I’m in Prague right now. It’s stunning. I took a tour around eastern Europe. I’m wearing my GMT BLNR. But I’m going through a withdrawal. I can’t wait to get back home.

Interesting, so did they just fade away or you managed to shake them off?

I stopped talking to them and they got up and left. All this time they did not order anything. Waiter was not happy.

I have to agree Peter.

G-Shocks are great for travel. With day/date display, 31 timezones, 200m WR, zero attraction for thieves, built like tanks (drop 'em on the tile floor all day long), and some with altimeter, barometer and compass if you're really 'exploring', what's not to like?

Where was this. I have never been to Europe but hearing a lot about watch mugging there. I never have a second thought on wearing one in the US of course not everywhere but generally. I will soon be traveling so need to buy an Apple Watch or a Casio

I would not know how to deal with having to not wear a Rolex. It has not happened to me in 40 years.

Singapore is sensational and very safe PLUS has world-class timepiece speciality stores. If you love wearing your timepiece, find destinations where there are no worries.

More notice a nice watch now than ever in the past. Quiet admiration is hopefully all most of it is.

My go to for international travel is my Explorer 1 or Tudor BB58 depending on risk / where I’m going.

In CONUS I wear whatever I want but use my head and am aware of my surroundings.

I took a fall in mid May and sustained an injury that has kept me from accessing my nice watches (and guitars). Hopefully, in a few weeks, I'll be able to access these things. I'll keep wearing Casio watches for now.

Withdraws? Yes.

Just being a male with a bracelet/watch on in today's world gets noticed. You are the odd guy out. If you wear a watch where I live it's usually a smart watch on a strap.

I left my Submariner home for 2 weeks while vacationing in the Philippines. I wore my Apple Watch, it wasn’t the same…

Absolutely! 100% That´s why I bought one a couple of years ago, the solar/radio 5610U. I wear it when I go out in summer...nobody steals a G-Shock!

I just noticed I said mid May. I meant mid March!

Jones fracture in my left foot. Slow to heal... that's the really short story. Just takes time. I officially retired a couple of weeks ago, so I have time :)

Thanks for your comment!

I'm going back and forth on this topic for my Italy trip in September. I'm leaning towards bringing the BLNR.

Going on a Baltic cruise next week; still undecided on what piece(s) to bring. I'm thinking probably Batgirl GMT and an old shitter for excursions.
