Full White Gold Daytona...No Love....?
I keep wondering why there are no threads for the full white gold Daytonas, but other white gold models get hyped. Anybody have one out there ;-)

I got my first Daytona (Zenith) in 1988. Second in 2001 (Very Rare Panna Cotta Faulty Paint on the dial) and a YG in 2009. Never got a WG because it was 4-6X the MSRP of the stainless- so it wasn’t necessary.
That said, The stainless steel MSRP price is/was always lower than the two-tone, yet was always a premium or huge premium over the two-tone. Because of the enormous demand and popularity of the Stainless Daytona, the White Gold isn’t really an option for most buyers….. |

The Daytona became really popular after Rolex upgraded the bezel to ceramic, because it’s that much better.
Add to the fact that WG looks like stainless. Full WG Daytona has a metal bezel and looks like stainless. So generally makes sense why it’s not as high in demand. Need to be a huge stealth wealth into watch collector to pay $40k for this reference. |

I think it has to do with it being the only watch in the modern lineup which is made of every metal Rolex has...
SS, YG, RG, WG, and Platinum So WG just gets less attention. The WG Sub gets attention As does the WG GMT-II* *btw how come the new movement didn't change that moniker to GMT-III? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I think that they are beautiful - and I agree the blue dial one is amazing. I personally just don't think that they are worth $40k.

It wouldn't be for me personally. I couldn't justify spending £34k on a watch that looks virtually the same as a stainless even though its a fabulous piece.

For me, the appeal of yellow gold is the colour variation it exhibits.
Everyone knows the flashing of yellow gold in full sunlight, but as yellow gold passes through falling light-levels, it changes from a luminescent ochre, to a deep, lustrous, almost orange appearance, to a final perfectly reflective black. It's really quite wondrous. I've never owned white gold: does it display the same spectrum of hues? I would guess not, though I'd be delighted to be corrected by a white-gold wielder. |

I’ve got the 126 ref Ghost Daytona on oysterflex (white gold) and love it. Yes it’s under the radar but as most say, I wear a watch for me and the feeling it gives to me. I don’t wear it for others to look at.
I actually love the colour of the WG as it has its own shade. It looks and feels different than SS. Proud new owner of the beautiful White Gold Ghost 126519LN |

They're not as popular as other rolex sports models for the same reason as the explorer 2 - the matching bezel and case. To many it is a dated, late 80s/early 90s look and is very ugly when scratched up. Which the white gold ones will be very quickly.

They literally fly under the radar, stealthy PM for sure. I was after the green dial YG Daytona for years and one of the more astute TRF members here (you know who you are :)), put me on a path which included the Blue dial White gold Daytona but I was equally unable to get either one. I’m over it now but I would have gladly bought the blue dial Daytona. I’ve never even seen one in the wild so I’m guessing they are somewhat rare?

The price just makes the pool of buyers smaller.
The watch is a stunner. |

As others have stated, one reason could be that it looks much like SS, but at a steep price.
I love the full gold bezels, but more often than not, there is a lack of contrast found with these references. A black or coloured bezel, depending on the dial, would change this for the better. The poor options for dials also doesn't help at all. |

I'm all about WG. Had a WG Daytona and sold it, to get the 116500LN. Dumbest watch move I ever made.
I'm definitely getting another, either a blue one like Gia posted, or a 116519 "ghost." Notice I said selling the WG Daytona I had was the DUMBEST move I ever made... Yes, I'm admitting in public I messed up. Also, I did buy a WG submariner with the blue bezel and love it. Not making the mistake twice. Go WG and love it for yourself. |

It's all about the bezel. Put a ceramic bezel on the full gold daytona bracelet models and they would be as hyped as the stainless models. Most people see a non-ceramic bezel as a step down, even if it's gold. Strange I know.

I had the opportunity to pick one of these three a couple of months ago. Unfortunately my pictures do not do any of these the justice they deserve,
all I can say is if you get a chance, try them on, they feel and look amazing! |

Beautiful, I'm not a fan of the Daytona but by god that is a good looking watch.
Congratulations.

I concur with the comments
I picked one up in 2018 AD called me to see if I was interested I turn up Really liked it, but blue seemed off under dealer lighting. Watch looked a bit flat, like above, that was whilst I was trying it on. Then I went to get a coffee and decided I did really like it. And then this was the first day I wore it outside I can't sing its praises enough. Unless you want the obvious YG/RG look, it hits all the notes for me. 2 other watches like this, the blue dial oyster DJ and the Pt diamond dial day date. This WG Daytona sits in the middle. All 3 are pretty much the peak of every day watch use, all at different price points. Whilst on this topic I think the all PM WG steel dial is criminally underrated too. It's got the "panda" look but in steel dial (I believe it's what people refer to as ghost?). Never seems to get love, but it's incredibly interesting. I own it on OF but full PM is amazing. Can you imagine a 6262 in full WG with a steel panda dial or blue dial. |

After owning the 116520 for a little while now, I can see myself trading up for the WG Blue dial one day. Keep the pics coming!
