Icon20 WG DD40 from AD - help wanted!

I got the call today that one of my dream watches is in and I was on the top of the list. I have only bought Rolex’s from the grey market, so pretty excited to get this opportunity. My only question is it’s not my 100% preferred dial color - I would love the blue or green more but the black appears pretty traditional, classic and never out of style. I don’t want to lose my place in line - just would love some thoughts from the community. Thanks in advance.

That’s a lot of money to spend on something you’re not completely enamored with.

I would go in a look at the watch. Maybe it speaks to you more in person. If not , politely decline and wait for the one you really want.

Buy the watch you want, not the one they offer you.

See it in person. This is a large purchase. You should absolutely have no reservations. My AD has shown me many Day-Dates in different configurations (YG + White, RG + Chocolate, etc...) with no issue if I turned it down. Do not get lost in the AD games, you are the consumer at the end of the day (no pun intended).

Agreed with all of the above. Do not buy what you don’t want. They will offer you others.

The AD will have no problem selling the black dial and they will get the color you want eventually. I have passed on pieces that were not exactly what I wanted and don’t feel I was penalized for it. Thank them for offering it to you and be clear about the specific dials you want. Your patience will pay off….eventually.

The black is nice but looks too much like a datejust. A day date should be special. Go for the blue ombré dial!

I’m guessing when you told the AD what you would like that included dial colour? if so if it’s not what you asked for then I wouldn’t be buying it which is unfortunate after waiting for the right watch

DD40’s are mesmerizing in any gold metal color and dial .

First: sure you want white gold?
second: pick the dial you like .

Black and white gold might be too safe? as looks like DJ a bit?

So buy the one that you really want as $$$, at stakes here.

I would suggest trying on and seeing how it looks on the wrist ..
I also wouldn’t worry about losing a place in line, heck of a lot of money to part with, plus as mentioned you’ve bought grey previously so you must be happy to pay extra for the exact watch you want …
For me in the day-date varieties, I love the ombré dial, that’s what I would hold out for, hope it works out for you ..

Black looks amazing with the diamond baguettes. The blue and greens are available so there should be no problem with you asking for one. As other have said, don't settle. If you do you will be paying for a dial change within a year and that's silly!

Wait for the one you love to wear on your wrist, don’t settle for less.

WG Day-Date looks best with meteorite dial but it will a lot harder to get.

Olive and blue are also popular, black looks more elegant.

Definitely pass. That's a $40,000 watch and you're settling for a dial you don't want. If anything find it on the gray market brand new and it'll very likely come out less than the AD after tax

Why anyone would buy any watch if it was not the dial colour they really wanted defeats me.

Go see it in person. If not 105% sure, pass. You may be surprised, though. I have been offered day dates I requested and had to pass once I saw it in person. For what it's worth I think this is a timeless classic option.

If the AD experience/relationship is important in this case, I’d try it on to see for yourself, if you don’t like it and still would want another color, I’d decline and tell them you’re waiting for exactly what you want.
If it were me personally….there’s several new 228239’s just doing a quick search on C24, (these can be negotiated) with blue, green, silver dials, that are at, below, or slightly above msrp.

This sums it up.
If the AD can't come through with the one you want, you can find it elsewhere and likely at a discount.

Thank you for your feedback. I totally get that and I have bought many from C24 - but there is just something to be said for being the first true owner on all the paperwork etc.

If you don't want it, phrase it to the AD as "I'd rather leave this for someone else who has the black dial as their number one, and wait for the [blue] dial" and I can't see how they could have an issue at all. Wait for what you want!

Your name won't be anywhere on any paperwork from rolex. only a date of purchase on the warranty card.

I'd be happier saving $3000 on a brand new watch from a grey dealer than having to play the AD game
