"Request for Assistance in Verifying the Authenticity of This Watch"

Dear Forum Members,

I am seeking your expertise to verify the authenticity of a Rolex watch I own. The watch has been in my possession for over 20 years. I believe it is a Rolex Datejust model, and the reference number on it is 62523. Additionally, the watch has "N.18" engraved on it.

Could you please help me determine if this watch is genuine? Any insights or suggestions on how to authenticate it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Best regards,

The model number 62523 refers to the bracelet, not the watch, and the latter part is probably H-18. This is normally stamped onto one of the bracelet clasp blades and it refers to a man's bi-metallic Jubilee bracelet with 18ct gold center links.

The bracelet will have 20mm wide end pieces to fit a 36mm man's DateJust.

Your watch doesn't look like a 36mm case size so I would be very suspicious of it.

If you want to look further at the watch itself you will need to remove the bracelet and look for the model number and serial number engravings between the lugs.

You will also need to have a lot more photographs of the case, dual, hands, engravings, etc. if you want to have it authenticated on the forum, but the one photo you supplied doesn't look good to me.

Welcome to the forum!

Can you post other pictures?

The bracelet reference 62523 did come in 13mm, which that appears to be the size of the watch in the picture.

You can find the watch's reference numbers - serial at the 6 o'clock and model at the 12 o'clock..

Agree with Adam - and add that it is a poorly made movement in a replica watch. Hope that doesn't sound harsh.

If it has sentimental value then I understand keeping it.

I had a father-in-law who was totally unaware of Rolex and was hoodwinked when he wanted to gift me a Rolex. An unscrupulous pawn shop foisted it off on him. I couldn't bring myself to say any more than "thank you".

So if that approximates your situation then remember the love a family member has/had for you.

This isn't a replica by any standard definition. The words REGISTERED and SWISSMADE aren't even close to being spelled correctly.

The rest have nailed it more definitively, but even the band looks hokey, the way the links link together (or rather, fail to link together). You might see something like that on a really old Rolex with a falling apart band, but not on one this new.

For example here's a closeup of a 1981 ref. 6916 's jubilee bracelet, which it's a little loose the way the links connect, but nothing like on the fake the OP posted.
