Oyster perpetual date = 34mm datejust?

I'm curious about the history of oyster perpetual date. Is it basically a smaller datejust but then there are small datejust too. It's confusing...

I read a couple articles online but they don't really give me any information on how it's distinct other than the name.

The OP Date is smaller than the contemporaneous DJ. If you are seeing small DJs, they are probably the ladies models or perhaps a repainted Date.

The Date is 34mm, as you mention and has a 19mm bracelet size rather than the 20mm; it is limited in dial and bracelet choices that the larger Datejust enjoys. For the Ladies, the Date was a smaller 24mm and the Datejust was 26mm.

There is no confusion, they are model names just like any other product and should not be looked at as a smaller this or a larger that.

I've always assumed it was an effort to fill multiple price-points.
