Yachtmaster 42 Titanium: what’s the latest you’ve heard from the AD?

Hi all,

piggybacking on the thread "Le Mans: what’s the latest you’ve heard from the AD?", I wanted to see what the word on the street is regarding the Yachtmaster 42 Titanium.

From a rarity perspective, it almost seems to be as scarce as the Le Mans

I understand that it (the Titanium) is a niche model but I am having issues wrapping my mind around Rolex not being able to crank them out (yes, I'd like one )

My local boutique said they’ve sold 1 this year. No clue if true (probably not). Not looking good for mere mortals.

My boutique “said” they have only had 2 of them come through and they are a higher volume store in NYC.

the secondary prices are coming down and I think they are below Daytona now, so whilst very very hard to get I think the interest is reducing.

When it was announced my longtime SA said it generated more inquiries than anything else that year. Next time I mentioned them again he said they had only received a handful and most people asking had given up and moved on.
I got to see and try one on a couple months ago at my local AD, SA said it was only the second they had gotten.
Makes no sense to me either. May be new for Rolex but certainly nothing exotic about titanium watches.

Just saw it in the flesh last week. My AD (owner) bought one for himself. It’s the only one he has received so far. It’s a pretty cool watch.

Its an interesting model for sure, but I'm happy to wait years for this model to come down in price (after market), low production numbers are keeping the price high although it has come down a fair bit in the last 6 months and I believe that trend will continue.

Like many new releases I was interested in this model. Now, not so much. Why? Price and availability. I would be hard pressed on this one to buy it at retail much less the markups that are currently on this model. My Tudor Pelagos watches will do for now and maybe always.

Love mine, wears very differently due to the weight and brushed titanium material/build, very understated piece and flies under the radar again due to the darker brushed metal look and not really having a jubilee or polished metal bracelet 'bling' factor, but you do realize you are wearing something unique....

I really wanted one as well, but rescinded my request to my AD for a different reason. Had the chance to try on a 42WG, and it’s too big for my wrist. Seemed like being in metal would’ve made it wear even bigger compared to the OF.

The 40RG size wise was perfect.

One of my vintage dealers who started dealing in modern during covid picked up one last week in a bundle with some ladies 2 tone datejusts from a local AD. Paid over msrp

Thanks to everyone providing feedback and congrats to the folks who were lucky to be allocated one!

It’s on my wishlist with my AD and I will wait and see what happens. I was tempted to get a Pelagos in the meantime but I don’t want to settle.

I wanted the Yachtmaster- but after 3 or 4 phone calls, reality set in. For the grey market money, I prefer the H. Moser Pioneer Divers that they did for Govberg in Titanium 40mm (my favorite) and Steel 42mm.

Rolex purists will probably say that the movement is not as robust, but to me it is just gorgeous (and is rated for 2 hours more than the Rolex). The water resistance at 120 is rated higher than the YM, although the YM probably is severely underrated.

The Moser case designs are interesting, the clasp is adjustable, and then there's the dial!

They are also limited, but you can find them for retail or even slightly less on the forums and from 1916 company from time to time.

I'm on the list, apparently! Tried one on at Hudson Yards whilst in NYC late August and its the only one I've seen in the official Rolex dealers. Liked it but Titanium still feels odd compared to stainless steel. My Pelagos 39 is a great alternative.

Interesting take on the YM vs the Pelagos. I do not see it as settling, I see it as maybe making a better choice and decision. For 1/3rd of the price new and 1/10th of the price on the secondary market the Pelagos is quite a watch.

Agreed. And the Pelagos has a better bracelet (more adjustability), and frankly the LHD is more interesting to look at. Thought it's personal, and good on Rolex for releasing (sort of ) a Titanium sports watch.

That's the one I was contemplating...I like it but I'd probably still want the YM42. Of course they could co-exist

Tudor is a great value proposition and I love my Black Bay. So where can I get a Pelagos for $1,400 on the secondary market?
