I just used a new invention called Google and it came up immediately with this at the top of the page:

The charts are close but not always 100% correct.
Only Rolex knows and they don’t share charts

This is the most comprehensive resource but there's not too many examples from 1984.

8,3 - 8,5 million s/n's generally fit 1984 production.

Another internet resource is https://www.minus4plus6.com/about.php

A good deal of reference material there, including case and clasp serial #'s in list form.

If you are looking for incorrect case dating go to Bob's Watches. His chart is way off base for dating Rolex cases - to include 1984. Try 8.4 to 8.5/8.6.

As an example and general rule for me, the GMT 16750 or similar watches with an 8.3 serial as Paul mentioned is well within the matte dial era which is too early for 1985 models that are found with the glossy, gold surround dials. Additionally, as all things Rolex when dating any particular part, watch or nuance, there is rarely a complete agreement from the collecting community - but, as I , mentioned, some charts or tables are way off base while others are more correct.
