Trade in proposition
Just a bit of background on my watch collection journey. My first Rolex was the hulk back in 2012 and went on to add the rest over the last 12 years. My last addition was in 2020 where I had purchased the Pepsi.
I am considering to sell off some of these watches for a Patek 5168G. I am not sure if this is the right thing to do as I might have seller remorse subsequently. Anyone has similar experience can share with me your thoughts? 1. 116500LN White 2. 116500LN Black 3. 116610LV 4. 116710BLNR 5. 126710BLRO |

The risk of seller's remorse will always be present. If you really don't reach for some of the watches in your collection very often to wear them, those would be the ones I would consider trading.
If I really wanted the PP and had your collection, I would keep the LV, BLRO and one of the Daytonas and then trade the BLNR and the other Daytona towards the PP. FWIW, you should keep the LV. It's no longer in production and clean examples will become increasingly difficult to source if you wanted it back. |

I did what you’re talking about. Traded 4 Rolex for this. But of course held back some tasty Rolex because you just must have some tasty Rolex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not sure I would give up those watches for a WG Aquanaut, but if I had “had” to, I would move the BLNR and one of the Daytonas. Good luck with your choice!

Arguably, your collection contains the most hyped Rolex sports models of the last 15 years. You can continue to follow the hype pieces, or you can carve your own way but putting some of your personality into your next purchase. Perhaps that’s the Patek, but only you truly know if you’re considering buying it because you love it, or you’re buying it to check the ‘hot Patek’ in the collection box. I would personally trade any of the Rolex you own that get little wear. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’ve been shopping for a Patek for awhile. 5168g blue and green, 5167r.
I ended up putting up everything not-sentimental for sale which included Daytona, sprite, Starbucks, etc. Then I just got annoyed with the Patek aquanaut after looking at it intently for awhile. The numbers are crooked and done rather poorly. It is the entry level watch they meant for it to be. |

never understand why the pp 5168g earns so much praise, I have no interest in it. but if you are so incline, I would suggest you getting rid of the blnr and black daytona to fund the pp.

If you do go down that road make sure the 5168 looks good on your wrist. On my 6.6 inch flat wrist the 5167 looks pretty large already, larger than my 5711 BTW.
Personally I'd stay put as I prefer steel Nautilus and neo-vintage Calatravas for basic Patek three handers. The only Aquanaut I'd consider at this point (and only at MSRP) is 5968A. IMO it is the best Patek sports chronograph and among the best sports chronos overall. Unfortunately, borderline too large for my wrist size. |

If at all possible, add the Patek, and see how it fits into your rotation. I know easier said than done, but ideally that’s what I’d do |

No way. If you kept every detail of the 5168, but changed the name plate to Hamilton you probably say something like “huh, what a really plain, uneventful watch on a rubber strap.” I am also not a huge 500 Daytona fan, but I understand the appeal. You have a really nice collection and the 5168 does nothing to improve it.

Trade half toward your PP. You will feel gutted not having some more robust and signature Rolex models.

I have 1, 3 and 5 items from your collection and I consider them to be the iron trinity. I also had 116710BLNR, but after 5 years of use I sold it. I can advise you, sell items 2 and 4, add the same amount in cash and buy yourself a Patek - because dreams have to come true.

I did this last month. Everything through same AD. I traded my 2 116 Daytonas for the blue 5186 and some cash. BUT, I have a relationship such that if I miss my Daytonas I will be able to get them without too much of a wait so that alleviated a bit of the worry of buyers remorse.
Here was my thought process: -Loved my 116s, however I like the 12 series better. -I had 7 Rolexes and felt I wanted to diversify a bit. -I’m left with 5 Rolexes that I wear much more than my Daytonas (to be fair, part the reason was concern with situations where theft would be a possibility). So do I regret it? Absolutely not! I love the 5186 and I’m finding it’s so easy to wear in any situation. It’s not something that I worry about situationally and it’s simply gorgeous (and easy to read). I’m left with a BLRO, BLNR, YM Everose, Sub 41 date in my Rolex collection at the moment and I’m content with my current collection (for now). I’m questioning whether to replace the Daytonas, but when they call I know I will say yes. Good luck and I feel this is part of what makes my love of watches fresh as opposed to constantly adding… Last edited by JSol1; 27 November 2024 at 11:31 PM.. Reason: Add photo |

Love Patek but not that one… not an attractive piece and I would never consider trading out of most of the Rolexes listed towards it. Exception is the LV.

Not a fan of the 5168G at all. I swear it is popular because the nautilus is so popular and unobtainable. Hard pass for me.

At the same time I do think your collection would benefit from some diversity. Trade one GMT and one Daytona of your choosing for a AP RO, or add money and get that Nautilus if you want PP. Don't settle for the second best :) |

That’s a perfect Rolex collection. The Aquanaut is pretty special though. If you can swing it, I’d add the aquanaut and wait to sell the others.

I don’t like the Patek, but if you do I’d go for it. Value wise it seems reasonable.

Sure, I traded an extra Daytona for an AP diver which is an unpopular trade and so happy I did it. No reason to have color duplicates in a relatively small collection (<15 pieces).

Aquanaut would be an addition for me if at all. Not worth trading my SS Rollies for that one. But if I must it would be the BLNR and the Black Daytona

I don't know my Patek references at all, so when you wrote, "Patek 5168G," I immediately thought: some sort of gold dress watch.
Then it turned out to be the Aquanaut, and my thought was, "Oh ... so ... not really a Patek." And I know it is a Patek. But my brain just sees it as ... not quite a Patek. |
