What can mechanical watches do that quartz can't?
Here's one example: Say I'm cooking something, and I want to time it. The problem is that I started it 3 minutes ago. There's no way to get a stopwatch to start at 3:00, but it's easy with a timing bezel.
Any other examples of something that a mechanical watch can do that a quartz watch can't? |

But you can get a quartz watch with a bezel! Just because it has a bezel it doesn't make it a mechanical watch.

Not require a battery, new or otherwise

Quartz watches can not evoke that sense of history and craftsmanship that I admire in mechanical watches...

I have a kinetic quartz watch that doesn't require a battery. Can quartz watches gain value over time? I would assume so but...
I would also argue that the inside of a quartz watch isn't the delicate dance of gears and springs that makes a mechanical watch a real piece of art. |

I was going to say! My dad uses his quartz to time things with the bezel all the time!

Or in the case of Rolex, make that beautiful music when you put it to your ear! Quartz watches don't make a sound. Well, maybe just "tick, tick, tick". How boring is that!

A mechanical watch will empty my wallet and a quartz will not.

Mechanical watches have a heart, you can not say this for a quartz

A quartz deprives me the joy of winding!

A quartz doesn't have a sound like mech.
And a quartz can't make me want to buy it.

I like the idea that my watch ticks 28,800 times per hour.. 691,200 times per day... 252,288,000 times per year...so at 5 year intervals.. the watch has been able to stand.. 1,261,440,000 ticks. that is amazing...
I don't know about quartz watches but I don't like the seconds hand jumping every second... I like it to be around 8 times per second.. smooth.. and battery less..

Run without any electronic motivation. To me, a watch running on a battery is kind of like cheating.
