Quick comment on Citizen Eco-Drive.

Hello All

guys/ladies plz comment on your experiences with Citizen Eco-Drive...specifically the Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar version (pictured below)...my brother really liked it and I am planning to give it to him on his wedding...plz tell me honestly/frankly how has it been if you've been an owner and how does it look/feel to you if you've only seen it or toyed with it...

thank you very much..your comments are highly appreciated

regards,
Asad A Awan.

Don't have a minute repeater, but have had nothing but good luck with my Eco Drive.

Hey Asad,

I have this watch and it's very nice. I just posted this elsewhere in these forums, but it has some nice features, like a perpetual retrograde date indicator, month indicator, it tells you which year of the leap year cycle you are in and it has a fully functional minute repeater, which if you haven't tried before, is very cool. Basically, it chimes the time with the press of a button. It can also function as a GMT watch, because the main dial and sub dial times are set separately. The watch has also been very accurate, and it's comfortable with a pretty good bracelet as well. The watch wears very well.

I recommend Citizen watches in general and this one in particular. I think it'd make a great wedding gift.

This is the version I have:

I own a Citizen military style Eco-Drive watch.

It isn't the model with a screw down crown.

It is still a great watch.

I have a cheap divers Eco-Drive and it is a good daily beater. Not bad watches and you dont need any of those batteries that plague Quartz watches. No Rolex but hey who cares at those prices.

Problem is at some point the internal battery goes and
then it costs almost as much as buying a new watch
to get it fixed...

I had to get one fixed for my younger cousin, his father had
one and wore it daily for a few years till he passed about 2 years
ago, at that point it sat in a drawer for 2 years. Last month my
cousin found it and wanted to start wearing it (he is 19) but we could
not get it to go. I called Citizen and was told let it sit in sunlight for
a few days (even out one of those supposed sun bulbs in a lamp above
it so it got charged 24 hrs a day for a week) ran great, died that night
no matter how hard we tried it would not keep a charge. Took it to my
local watch guy and he laughed, said they are a nightmare etc etc would
not touch it... Sent it to Citizen Service and got an estimate of over $250,
now I do not think the watch cost that much more when it was new.

Now I was told this happens more often when the watches are allowed to sit
in the dark for an extended period of time but still thats no excuse, the watch
is not even 10 years old and costs more to fix than it could be replaced for.
