I was just at a Rolex AD in Manhattan to have my '05 Submariner pressure-tested because I'll soon be taking it on vacation and into the sea/pool, etc ... The Sub got a clean bill of health for water sports, but the AD told me: "Remember, don't shower with your watch." Apparently, the hot water can compromise and/or wear down the gaskets and seals. Of course, I knew the hot tub was a no-no, but I had never heard that I shouldn't shower with a watch that supposed to be waterproof to 1,000 feet. Anyone else heard this? I've been showering with my Sub and GMT for years, but now I'm nervous.

Your AD is mistaken..
You cannot get your shower or a hot-tub hot enough to do any harm to your Sub..

Here in the desert, a normal day in the summer is hotter than a hot-tub ever gets..

I have showered with my Omega SMP, been in many hot tubs with it, been in the desert in August (mistake), has sat in a car on a 100 degree day for hours (accidentally), and it has taken a beating and kept on ticking. I am sure that a Rolex Sub can take that as well.

What a load of bovine excrement. My Sd has been diving in hot springs, artic waters that were colder than a mother in laws kiss, and everything in between including heavily chlorinate and pissed in psicnines(pools) and in one dive where ther was heavy sulphides in the water. All to no avail. The Ad should step out from bejiond the counter and start partaking in those sports where the Sd and other tool watches play in. It would be an educational eye opener

The only thing you should worry about is smacking it on the forcet or ceramic tile. Sorry to say thats what I did

Silly, a watch that can go to the depths of the ocean can spend 5 minutes getting clean with you in the shower.
