Simple question.

Is there a difference in the "Black Mother of Pearl" dial and the "tahitian"? or are they the same? Specifically, I have seen multiple 18k yachtmaster's (possibly JJ's favorite all gold!) with what appears to be the same dark dial called tahitian and black??

IMHO the black mop is the same as Tahitian mop. And itīs GREAT!

IMO it teams wonderfully with Diamonds as hour markers, but itīs not available for all models.

And I am not sure, if not a "regular", white mop, is more fitting to YG watches, as opposed to WG watches, where the Tahitian mop is simply stunning!!!

Just my .02, Hermann

Same.

Although you do occasionally see black pearls out of Hawaii, Tahitians are the only widely marketed true black pearl. All the other black pearls are color-treated. Tahitians come from the black-lipped mollusk and are available in a variety of shades and overtones. My avatar is a strand of baroque Tahitians.

Here's a link showing some of the different overtone colors.
