I've worn a Rolex for over 20 years and don't think I've ever been asked that question.

get asked it all the time, its annoying... only happens when wearing something with a cyclops tho.. simple solution is wear a dweller or milgauss..

i always just answer its fake, because if they knew watches they would know its real.. and since they dont know watches i dont want them knowing my business and then coming after me in the parking lot/etc

No one notices my watch...

Yesterday i was at a meeting and spoted a collegue from one of our subsidiaries with a 1680 that just looked like new. I told him he had a lovely watch, told me he bought it for 1000$ in Cuba 10 years ago and that he loved it. We chatted about it for 10 minutes... never did he notice my GMT II :'-( lol

I've never been asked. In fact my rolex has only ever been noticed once and that by a salesman as walked into a watch shop in Fukuoka. He was very nice to me the whole time I there.

I've been asked and I replied "it looks real" with a smirk. Let her think what she likes. She knows me to be frugal and couldn't imagine me buying a rolex.

to a majority of the people a couple thousands watch is no wear near "entry-level", I know I am...

a lot of times it also depends you presents yourself to others, and stereo-type plays a BIG part to it too, but i hate that question.

that is the exact reason why I want to hide my rolex at different times...

I've never been asked that question. I guess if I was asked, I would reply with "Of course it is!" Like Bruno said, anyone who knows me would never ask. Besides, I think it would be rude to ask someone a question like that.

I haven't been asked if any of my watches are real... but I have been asked "why would you spend that much on a watch my (insert brand here) keeps great time".

My response has been I am a watch guy and love watches. That usually ends it, however it has also sparked so great conversations about watches.

My Breitling Superocean Chrono gets more qestions and looks, but that is probably due to its bright cash and braclet and size. Everyone, including non watch people has heard of Rolex and associates it will high cost. Most non watch people have never heard of Breitling.

On a similar note, both my wife and I have BMWs and the stigma attached to BMWs is the same as Rolex. The funny thing is my wife's BMW 5 series wagon is 6 years old and while it looks like new, most minivans costs more.

Luckily no one has asked that question and IMO anyone with manners wouldn't ask. I have had people who admire the watch, however, they are fellow Rolex owners.

When women ask definitely tell them it's real. In a previous post on the topic an even better move offered was to take it off and drop it in a drink/beer then ask "would I do that if t wasn't?' Still waiting to try that one.

When asked by a male showing sincere admiration I would say yes. If it seems however that the intent is to challenge whether it's genuine I answer "Yes, it's really a watch, did you mean genuine?" that generally leaves them thinking.

Some people just can't comprehent why we paid that much $$$$ for a watch (include my wife) but when we talked about what are your passions in life....(Big house, expensive car, exortic vacations, diamonds, home theaters, etc...) owning Rolexes is just one of those! Now, I just give me a justifcation for go out and get my Explore-II ! :-)
