GMT it is, but need a suggestion
As some know, I've wrestled with various models as I get close to buying my first rolex. After much consideration, I've decided on the gmt. Not the new model, which i like, but the previous generation as it is more affordable and offers the flexibility to change bezels for a different look. I like the black for more elegance, less flash but will want the pepsi for more sport and a bit of kick.
Anyway, my question is, I am not familiar with the different model numbers that so many folks reference. In other words, a GMT isn't exactly a gmt as the models must vary slightly as the model numbers can be different. Can anyone help me understand the different model numbers and nuances between the years so i can figure out what yr to focus on search on? Perhaps the differences are completely insignificant and a 2005 is exactly the same as a 1992 or 95, etc., that's what i am trying to figure out. I still haven't ruled out the very nice 1995 for $3250 out the door, but want to do more homework. My budget will likely be in the $3k-3500 range as there appears to be a good variety and selection of quality gmt's in this price range. I am not looking for a collector or anything with sentimenal value, just a quality everyday watch. thx for the help. |

If you are just wanting one to wear and be reliable I would concentrate on the 16710 GMT II, manufactured from ~1989 through 2008.
If you just like the look, and know how a GMT is supposed to function, then the GMT Master 16700 (same watch but without the "jump" hour hand feature) was manufactured from ~1989 through 1999. Both have a Sapphire crystal, use the same inserts so you can install whichever you like, and can be found with either the Jubilee, Oyster, or Oyster Flip-lock (Sub) bracelets.
