5513 Winding Issue

Hey Guys:

I have a Matte Dial 5513 from the early 1970s.

I got the watch serviced approximately 18 months ago. During the service, the watchmaker noted that the Automatic Reverse Driver and the Ratchet Wheel were replaced.

I wear the watch on a regular rotation and I typically wind the watch using the crown before I put it on (As I do with all my watches).

I noticed today that winding the watch with the crown, which was previously (Extremely) smooth, has become more coarse/rougher/gritty. The watch can still be wound using the crown and the timekeeping is fine.

Any ideas on what's going on? This is the sign of something more serious?

Just had my 1675 serviced at Otto Friedl for the exact same issue. Not sure exactly what they did to fix it, but it took all of 10-minutes while I waited.

Needs to be inspected by an expert, but sounds like a lack of lubrication somewhere. Keyless works or autowinding reverser perhaps.

I have heard this kind of story and it was due to a lack of lubrification on the auto winding reverser, it was easily fixed but pulling out the auto winding module, cleaning it and oiling it.

Could of course be a totally different issue but definitely something to consider.

It does not seem to be so rare.
