5513 Winding Issue
Hey Guys:
I have a Matte Dial 5513 from the early 1970s. I got the watch serviced approximately 18 months ago. During the service, the watchmaker noted that the Automatic Reverse Driver and the Ratchet Wheel were replaced. I wear the watch on a regular rotation and I typically wind the watch using the crown before I put it on (As I do with all my watches). I noticed today that winding the watch with the crown, which was previously (Extremely) smooth, has become more coarse/rougher/gritty. The watch can still be wound using the crown and the timekeeping is fine. Any ideas on what's going on? This is the sign of something more serious? |

Needs to be inspected by an expert, but sounds like a lack of lubrication somewhere. Keyless works or autowinding reverser perhaps.

I have heard this kind of story and it was due to a lack of lubrification on the auto winding reverser, it was easily fixed but pulling out the auto winding module, cleaning it and oiling it. Could of course be a totally different issue but definitely something to consider. It does not seem to be so rare. |
