How much do you really love your watch?

This question is for eveyone..how much do you really love your watch? I see some people here showing their newly purchase watch but after 6 months I see them in the sales forum..some people here have inherited their watches from somebody and they say it was my parents first watch..so that means old generation people tend to hold their watches longer than new generation people?...I just think that some people buy it because of the hype of some models but in reality it's actually not the watch they like..any thoughts guys?

I've bought and sold many watches over the last 10 years!

Part of it is changing tastes, and the other is the thrill of the hunt! But, I am now at a point where I feel content with what I have. I know how lucky I am to own the ones I do and I'm enjoying making memories with each

I love your collection karis..and by the way letter came called them up and extended it for another 2 months..so I'm so happy..

That's excellent David..I just notice some people tend to sell their watches after 6 months of wear..I have kept 3 of mine..I only sell watches that is available ok my friends jewlery store..but I try to keep the one I bought for myself.

Out of all the Rolexes I have bought, I have only sold one. I bought that one with intent to sell it. I love my other watches and feel they will be with me for a long time.

i have the same feeling...i posted my TOG on the sales forum and suddenly change my mind..i have a good offer from a fellow member but..i just cant let go of it..i feel like i might not be able to buy a TOG at a cheaper price...and i notice nobody had ever sold one in the forum...mostly regular and new dj's but never a TOG...

My Rolex was a college graduation gift....so it means alot to me. I would never sell it unless I was unable to afford food..lol God forbid that happens. My Rolex to me has sentimental value and I love it.

I know..some of our watches has more stories to tell than our daily life ogie..I like listening to people story or history about their watches..

I bought my first watch when I was a teenager many years ago.I hung out with an older crowd and had no clue what I was buying or getting myself into.I went downtown to a local AD(I didnt know what that was then)And my friend knew the salesman.I bought a new Rolex GMT and got a deal on it than cause it had sat for 3-4 years They said I remember to me Rolex had changed the dials and than went to saphire crystal and mine was of the older type so they gave it to me for $1150 brand new.(big money for me than.)Being the dummy I was I put the watch on my wrist and told them I didnt want the box or papers etc to throw them away.I wore this watch everyday and everynight I new it was a Rolex Gmt but as far as collecting etc had no clue.Latter in life I started earning a very good living and started to read up on watches and started to collect,buy and sell and than I found out I had a rare matte dial 16750 gmt.This was in 2001 I believe.I have choosen to wear this watch forever and see how long it goes.I have bought sold hundreds of watches and have a nice vintage collection as well.But this 1 has a value to me that no other watch can have.
I wish I would have foolishly left the box and papers behind when I bought it but im sure I wasnt the only one that has done this?

I hate to sell any watch I own as I only buy what I REALLY like. The only time I sell is if another I desire more comes around and I can't justify keeping anymore watches than the "herd" I have.

There are the sentimental ones I would never sell like my first Doxa my wife bought me for my 40th B-Day and others I like a lot but if a great deal comes my way on a deeply desired watch, I will part with another like I did when I bought my new YG GMT.

I still have the first watch my father gave me and also the one from my grandpa bought me when I was 13 so I'd say I tend to keep them. I also pretty content with my current collection so will be keeping what I got for the foreseeable future!

I cannot sell my Submariner. For some reason I feel that it'd be wrong to sell my first Rolex.

I really, really like watches, I always have. I have never been able to walk by a watch display at the mall and not stop and stare, even as a little kid. It wasn't until I was in my late 20's that I started buying and selling them, mainly vintage British mil. watches., I find them fascinating, all the history and all. All of my old mil watches were all mechanical, so that is how I discovered the whole mechanical watch thing. One day I told my wife I was wanting something new, and mechanical, wearing 60 year old watches daily was getting old. So a few weeks later I took a day cruising around checking out different AD's, all different brands and really just taken it all in. I was originally looking at a Panerai because they were manual wind watches, and that was what all my vintage British mil. watches were, but the sub I saw a few hours before the Pam was really sticking in my head. That day I made a friend at a AD and I have kept in touch with him ever since, great guy and he gave my a great discount right out of the box. I have been buying and flipping different sport models ever since, just mainly trying to experience them all. I have a hard time owning more than 2 watches, I guess I am just trying to be practical, that is why I used to flip, to buy another. The real reason I turned to a Rolex was the history of the tool line, that is why I get so annoyed when people want PCL's and junk like that on the tool line, they just don't understand and admire the history like I do I guess. Seriously, if Rolex keeps blinging out the tool line, ex. GMT IIC, I will never buy a new model again, if they don't respect their history, screw them, Omega still does.
People who buy the name are petty IMHO, they are the ones wanting their watches to be shinier than the next guy, the "look what is on my wrist" Rolex owners. I am embarrassed if someone notices my watches, I wear them for me, because I love them and I appreciate the mechanical working's inside of them.

I have yet to sell any watch that I have bought. I guess I may be in the younger generation (not yet 30) but I only buy watches that I love. My Speedy Pro and my Seamaster Pro for Omegas and my upcoming Submariner. I had one watch given to me by my father, it is an early 90's TAG Heuer S/EL. I loved that watch for as long as he had it. My mom bought him new TAG for their anniversary so he gave me his old one. Although the TAG doesnt get much wrist time, i will never part with it. I got my love of watches from my late grandfather so I think thats why every watch I buy is a lil more special to me than just a timepiece. My grandmother always tells me how the one watch my grandfather always wanted was a Rolex. Unfortunately he never had the means to own one and passed away before he could. Now I feel like I am going to own one for him(well...maybe 2 or 3). I buy watches to have them forever and hopefully pass on...

I will be buried with mine, actually she might have them give it to her after the funeral. I like your comment "I wear them for me." Take a good look at my only rolex, Bark finish Burlwood dial. It instantly reeks of a 30 year old watch. And not what someone would pick to show off. But, It is the one I like, and that is all that matters.

Mine was a somewhat recent (8 months) fifth anniv. present but I'd had my eye on a SS Sub Date for a long time before then. My wife, of course, knew that which is why she picked it and presented it to me at our anniv. dinner. From the moment I opened that sweet green box and put it on in it has just "felt right" on my wrist, like it has always belonged there. Aside from trying on an Explorer (brother in law) and Datejust (other brother in law) I have not worn, or wanted to, another watch. My wife has been hinting about how much she liked the way the Datejust looked so maybe I get another "surprise" sometime. Whether that happens or not the Sub Date is #1 and I also would make a lot of other sacrifices, if necessary, to keep it.
