Icon5 Now im confused...

I am completley lost... i have been looking into buying a daydate for a couple of months after i have wanted one for a few years. I was finally set on whoch one exactly and i was visiting this second hand watch shop every couple of days to check if they have what i want. I accidently stummbled upon the omega 311.30.42.30.01.006 and fell inlove with the watch. Can someone give me some advice or something? Not only ill get a watch i really like it, it costs less than a half of what i was going to spend... om the other hand the day date is a long dream and i would really enjoy it...

The Speedmaster seems like a great watch. I only say that because I’ve never owned one, but I’ve handled a few.

A Daydate is a big deal, but I say follow your heart.

If you settle on the Omega, you will end up buying the Rolex. Save yourself the time and money and get your grail!

A Daydate is a watch to end all watches. If you had your heart set on it, save up and get it and then decide.

I totally agree.
If I were hankering for the Rolex and picked up the Speedy as a fallback position, I think it would take me a very long time to move past it. If at all possible
And I already have my .005 Speedy but not until I was at a stage in life where I was rounding out a more diversified collection and absolutely no interest in any other Chrono.

Follow your heart! Pick up the Speedy, NOW! Down the road, if the Day Date is still singing... pick it up & wear them in rotation! Both are great, and very different watches!

In the meantime, enjoy the Omega on your wrist!

Both watches can easily compliment each other in a two watch colection.

Get the Day-Date. Based on how you described coming upon the Omega, it is just a distraction in a long-term quest.

I’m more of a Rolex guy but I do own a speedmaster date ( 32330404006001 ) I have contemplated on selling it a few times to fund a Daytona, but have backed out each time (latest was just last week) coz when I bring it out of the vault and wear it, I’m reminded of why I bought it in the first place- because it’s a gorgeous watch in person and I love looking at it. I end up wearing it for a few days to a week each time, Like now

Buy what moves you, get both when it permits, and wear it in good health.

Good luck and have fun shopping.

If your real hot on the Speedy get it now and keep saving. If a DD comes up too soon you can always flip the Speedy if you need cash.

So you’ve been dating this girl Rolexa for years. You knew in your heart she was the one. Even proposed to her. Now the wedding is coming up but you laid your eyes on the most voluptuous gal, Omega. It was love at first sight again. Your resolve is so shaken you decide to ask Rolexa’s friends and relatives what to do. Do the right thing. Marry Rolexa, and just don’t tell her about Omega

From what you say, it seems to me like you're not particularly set on anything. I believe the DD is your dream. I don't doubt, but is a particular DD you're looking for a watch you want or are you getting one because you just want to get a DD on your wrist ASAP. Let me give you an example: I love a 228235 olive dial RG DD40. I don't think I can spend that kind of money on a watch just yet. I could go and exchange my 126300 blue smooth Jubilee DJ41 for a 1803 on a leather strap with probably even some money going my way. But it wouldn't be a version of the DD that I want.

Similarly, I remember you looking at 18038/18238, are you looking at them because you want them for what they are (some prefer older watches that don't feel as solid in terms of bracelet, I for one, don't, some prefer 5 digit case, some prefer older design aesthetic) or just because you want a DD and those are the only ones in your range. If it is the latter, go watch shopping, try watches, find what you like and get it. My DJ41 was spontaneous. I wasn't interested in a DJ at all. I saw one at an AD, tried it on, passed on it, couldn't get it out of my head and ended up having to get one. That could be the case with you and Omega, or it could be that you are just looking for something to take your mind off a grail you have in your mind (perhaps a different DD). If you actually fell in love with an Omega, I'd wait it out. If you can't get it out of your head 1-2 months later, you can always just go and get one. It's not a watch you have to get now or else you'll regret it.

Omega is a great brand and I always say, anyone serious in watch collecting should own one Speedmaster. They have a very timeless classic look, I personally would choose a Speedmaster over a Datejust any day...

Most of the guys here will probably say “don’t settle”

But I’m understanding that you really like the Speedmaster

So why spend $30k on a watch if you love one for $6k??

Don’t buy the daydate just because of the popularity

But what you love

Sorry, but do you mean a Datejust vs a Speedmaster? A Day Date is lot more than twice the price of a Speedmaster.

I have a Speedy, it is an awesome watch, so comfortable on the wrist, you can add so many different styles of straps in place of the bracelet - black leather for a formal look, brown leather more casual, Nato straps take it in a different direction again, it is just such a great versatile watch.

Now, I have never tried a DD but if it wears as well as a DJ then you have one very difficult choice, I have the DJ and Speedy and they are two brilliant watches I wouldn't part with either.

Get both, they are very different. But the speedy is not settling, it’s the real deal. I have a Daytona and the speedy blows it away in just about all aspects and gets far more wrist time. The speedy can be had for like 3500+ preowned in great condition.

I would buy the Speed Master now and continue to research the DD. Enjoy the wear of the Speed Master and pick up a few straps. When the right DD comes along you will figure it out. Good luck.

I mean second hand day date for 11k or a new speedy for about 4.8k
