Thanks for sharing, Nick!
Hard not to like the 995. Very nice. 997 is surely nice in the flesh, but 48 is getting up there, diamter-wise. Maybe the ceramic helps with size. |

Nice releases, but...none of these green dials are 47mm and the prices seem high to me.
The 995 would have been brilliant as a 47mm. Given the 1940 case, it wears smaller than a 44mm Luminor 1950 case. I had it in my wrist and it felt, well, small. I do like the gold hands and domed sapphire. Also, $11,200 for a base movement? Doesn’t make sense as this is priced significantly higher than a 932 or 690, and it’s less of a watch. Same comments for the other two SS green dials. The 997 wears very nice on the wrist at 48mm given the black ceramic material and 1940 case. It’s really a winner with a light tan strap, especially canvas. Price is a bit too high at $13,300. Are these boutique only, LE, or standard production? I forgot to ask at the boutique. |

Love the 995, even love the idea of the micro-rotor movement, but the price is on the high side for me. Maybe Grey market would "fix" that .. LOL

I am not really into 1940 but this 995 has been inside my head since I was being offered one at the boutique few days ago.

Agree. The micro rotor is cool, but it detracts from the hand wound charm of "historically" modeled Panerai. I also dislike that Panerai is now releasing everything with a green dial. I know we've argued exhaustively that the shade may be subtly different on this forum, but it's just a repeat of what we saw with the blue dial "limited editions" last year.

When you think about it,is there any rad 1940 base with size other than 47mm? Probably only pam 577 which share the same case with 997,but then I think all the releases with colorful dials have no base models...for example there’s no blue or green dial 372....

anyone knows what's the use of the smaller hand on the subdial at 9 oclock? for 3rd time zone? i've never owned a gmt before, so i think this is like a stupid question.

The rightside of the subdial indicates the AM timezone (from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM) and thelefside the PM timezone (from 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM)...linked with the GMT hand. So if you read 10:10 (GMT hour hand) and the little hand on the 9' subdial is on the right side it means 10:10 AM...with the little hand on the left side it means 10:10 PM. |
