What's next for the Daytona?

The Daytona is due for bifurcation a’la the YM & YM-II. Just my 2¢...

A Daytona-II would not replace the Daytona - it would be a separate model in a 44-45mm case. Bigger subdials for elapsed minutes and hours and replace the running seconds subdial with a new complication. The large sweep seconds hand would be dual purpose. A running seconds if the chrono is off, or an elapsed seconds when chrono is engaged.

A new complication in the repurposed running seconds subdial could be a countdown timer for endurance racers. The bezel becomes a command ring to set the countdown feature and countdown would engage as soon as the chrono is engaged.

The classic Daytona keeps its current proportions and layout for parallel production.

“Zenith gets it right”?

I can’t read the sub dials on that Zenith?

How can it be called a chronograph if you have to guess the elapsed time?

same, unless they change something

What's next for the Daytona?

I can't believe there would be any change other than metal/dial combos. The watch is perfection the way it is. 70+ hour reserve and styling that is eternal. The PMs run a bit larger than the SS models. Go PM if you want a bit larger. May there never be a larger Daytona; perish the thought. Besides what motive would Rolex have? They can sell everyone they make exactly as is; it's their most popular watch.

I can’t imagine Rolex coming out with a new SS Daytona for at least a decade

I don’t see Daytona ever having a date. That would be horrible

Larger size? Not likely

Any tweaks would likely be:

-New bracelet like a mini glide lock similar to the new Yachtmaster
-New movement
-True panda sub dials

That said, right now the SS Daytona is one of the hottest if not highest demand watches in the world. When you have that kind of notoriety.... what’s there to change???

The movement on the Daytona led the charge of new movements; there's no reason to change.

Slightly slimmer bezel, it’s a tad much ceramic now.

I don’t see Rolex changing size, it’s the most unisex watch much due to size.

What's next for the Daytona?

That it will be available at every AD for MSRP!

I thought it was the other way around? PM had a different sized (slightly smaller) case?

They could remove some of the text in the dial - unnecessary and makes it look a bit too busy. The size should not be touched, watches in general are too large now.

The smaller 38.5mm Daytonas also have disproportioned right side lugs in an effort to make the watch more "balanced" when taking the chronograph pushers into account visually. Though if you're talking the case changes to the SS model exclusively, then I could see those happening next round of refreshes for the SS in 12-13 years.

Dials maybe a true panda in SS. Maybe jubilee option.

Love my Daytona, but wish they’d brush out the lugs and center links and cut back on the text. I’d absolutely hate a date as I generally don’t like dates on chronographs. Size is dead on IMHO.

Not with overlapping sub dials...and a date thrown in at 4 o'clock looks completely out of place, just kinda squeezed in....a watch designers worst nightmare...

a .5mm increase and maybe some alterations to the bezel proportion if they were to go a hair retro but honestly, dial changes end up being fine too...id LOVE a fume dial application to these...I can dream!

Wearing PM almost daily for a year, I'm pretty confident what I've got.

I think the ceramic bezel goes on the TT and PM models next year and that is about it. This will mean a small price increase for the new versions with ceramic bezels in spite of the fact the previous models had solid PM bezels. Although the OF white gold ceramic will look sharp on a PM bracelet.

Overlapping sub-dials on a chronograph is laughable. The people who design this stuff never realize it cannot be accurately read.

Love the Daytona but wish it was at least 41mm
Recently picked two Tokyo speedies from Japan. The picture doesn’t do it justice but the step dial and “silverish” white as well as the 42mm are certain winners for me! All are things I wish the Daytona gets.

Sorry for the poor lighting picture

I hope nothing changes. I feel when they moved to ceramic bezels, it made the Daytona a home run.
