Out of curiosity, what do you tend to wear on the Golf Course?

I don't wear a watch while I play. So whatever watch I'm wearing when I show up to the course just goes in the bag.

I had the same problem. Was up to 25 watches. I sold a couple most people would say to keep, 16710 and 116520. Once I purchased 116500 and 126710, they saw no wrist time. I also sold several other watches I wasn't wearing. I wanted to get a PM Rolex. Ended up with 3 PM pieces but went from 25 to 14. With what I have now I can't see myself selling any of the remaining watches. Just trying not to build back up again.

Wise move.

In my case I sold three to get my 5711. I have never missed what I sold to get my only Patek.

The answer seems obvious to me based on what you said right here. If a watch feels like a chore to wear, then it goes on the chopping block. If its been there for long enough, you sell it. Repeat until you have only watches that are a joy to wear.

You have so many incredible watches that, honestly, it's a shame to wear anything that you don't absolutely love.

I try to keep watches in my collection that have unique characteristics, you should try to do the same if your idea is to really downsize. It is hard to get too rational when we really like what we collect, but in my case, just so you have an idea of latest consolidation moves:

- sold a regular Speedy for a LE Apollo 11 40th edition (more unique dial). I own a vintage Speedy that belonged to my dad, so they are not in the same category.

- just sold my Tudor GMT (which I loved) as I got a 16760 (no need for 2 GMTs following my "logic").

- sold a Seamaster once I got a 16800 (also no need for 2 divers, although in this case they were very different).

- bought a DSSD JC because although I mentioned above that I had no need for 2 divers, the 16800 is vintage and the DSSD JC is one of the most unique pieces in Rolex's catalogue right now.

- sold a Breitling Aerospace just because wasn't getting enough wrist time.

- bought an IWC Spitfire (3878) as my pilot's watch.

I think part of the fun in our hobby is to make moves like these!

Keep the box with the 8 Rolex in it, and the Pepsi 16710. Sell the rest. You don't need Tudors and Omegas anymore, and I can't see you wearing the Milgauss and the Explorer with your other options.

9 watch collection, done and dusted.

Keep the hulk , the blue sub , Batman. Ones that have been taken off marker or may be in the future. If you got your pepsi at retail sale that and make some cash. Black gmt keep also

I would keep the watch box with the 8 rolex watches and the 16710. The others can go. Nice collection

Unless it had sentimental value I would not keep any that I did not wear.

My advice: Sell the ones you don't wear. Be ruthless. And then go on the hunt for another watch you think you would like to wear. Be imaginative. Try new models. And if that does not do it for you, try new brands.

Buy to wear. Not to own. Just my opinion.

Let's start here. Why did you pick these watches? Is it because you wear them the most, or they have the most sentimental value?

I would definitely sell any watches you seldom wear or have no sentimental value. Take advantage of the current high resale market, but don't sell anything you feel would be difficult to replace first. No need to rush - take your time.

Separate the 8 ones you want to keep for sure then put the rest in order top to bottom and go from there. It's tough to sell any but you have to start somewhere. I know for me it's very hard to wear more than 10.

I played this game before. Some I traded for other watches I wore more. The fact of life is your taste change throughout the years. Great watches but if they don’t fit your evolving style can be sold/traded without any hesitation. Memories are made with the watches you wear.. Life is too short to hold onto material items that serve no purpose to their owner. Think about redundancy in color and function, then comfort. Forget this Rolex investment nonsense as that will always take care of itself. Following the Rolex commodity rate is a bit too “frugal” for a luxury watch owner so don’t let that decide which watch you sell/keep. IMO.

Great post! People get caught up in the notion that you HAVE to buy Rolex as a backbone of your collection. False.

By all means have Rolex. About half of my watch box is Rolex. But round it out a little. Try new brands and complications. New straps. New materials. That's the point of this hobby

Everyone goes thru this sooner or later.

We buy. We assess. We consolidate.

It’s a circle. Enjoy the process.

If it was my collection, I would keep:
1. 116600 LV
2. SD43
3. BLRO
4. 116619
5. Speedy Pro

Sell the rest and use that money towards a PM Lange, Patek, or FP Journe to round out your 6.

My answer is simple: if you don't wear a watch fairly frequently (say once every two weeks), get rid of it. Of course, this does not address the addiction issue because it is rational instead of emotional. But it is one way to look at it.

Then in 2015 my wife gifted me a Montblanc Star Chronograph on our wedding day. This was my first "real" watch and I was absolutely obsessed and infatuated with that watch, wore it every day for a year. In the fall of 2016 I was ready to buy myself another watch. I had narrowed it down to an Omega Speedmaster GSTOM or a Rolex Submariner 116610ln. So in December of 2016 I was in Houston and my wife and I went to the Galleria to do some shopping. Went into the Omega boutique and tried on almost every variation of the Speedmaster and almost pulled the trigger but wanted to go look at Rolex. So we went down the hall to the Rolex boutique and I asked a SA if he had a Sub date, he said they currently didn't have that model in stock and showed me what was available. Basically everything in the current lineup besides the SubLN and SS Daytonas. I hadn't yet joined TRF and my knowledge of Rolex was very limited and I was overwhelmed by the selection and different models (and honestly hadn't looked at much outside the SubLN) so back to Omega we went and I bought the GSTOM (that one still kind of stings, paid full retail but still love the watch to this day so oh well). Well, after getting home and enjoying the Omega for a whole month I still couldn't get the Rolex out of my head. Joined the forum in January of 2017 and purchased that Sub Date shortly thereafter, then my Exp II a few months later, then the BLNR, then...

We all know how it goes and how addicting it can be. To say I hit the ground running would be an understatement. I've acquired my entire collection, pictured below, in a short span of 4 years. Quite a few have come and gone and there are a few others I still lust after. But the last few weeks I've experienced almost an overwhelming feeling of "I have too many". Honestly I'm at the point where I can't even enjoy them all and it feels like a chore to wear certain watches.

Ideally I would like to get to 8-10 but have no idea where to begin and know I would have sellers remorse for almost all of the watches I currently have.

I've thought about selling all the GMT's but can't bring myself to do it. I've also thought about keeping 1-2 GMT's, 1-2 divers, 1-2 chronos but again, can't bring myself to do it and decide what goes and what stays.

Where do I start???? Do I just grab a few, sell them, forget about them and move on? Please share your thoughts and let me know if you've had a similar experience and what your outcome was.

A couple that are staying for sure:

Montblanc Chrono

Tudor GMT

SD43

116619lb

216570

116610lv

To me, you have too many Rolex. Really think about which you love and sell the rest. Gaps can be filled in later if you truly miss a piece but personally I would have a limit of max 2-3 per brand to make you really think hard about what you love.

Sell aggressively down to 5-6 pieces then use the money to buy a couple of higher end/PM pieces and see how your collection feels then. I would bank on it being much more balanced and you being more peaceful :)

Wow, this is something, that's a large collection, no wonder you are struggling to downsize.
well you obviously don't need 3 of the same watch.

Too many watches, struggling to downsize

I’d keep WG sub, LV sub, ND sub, BLRO and BLNR

Sell the rest to fund SS Daytona white dial

... and YG Daytona OF (116518) black dial / champagne subdials.

Those 7 will be enough to wear a different watch each day of the week, plenty of colors and both WG and YG.
