What to sell and when? Struggling
How do you guys decide? It's easy for me if I want a new watch so bad that it forces me to part with something else right away. But I've decided there's nothing I'm really pining for that much, and I feel like my collection is a bit excessive now (for me, certainly people on here have a lot more).
But I can't decide what to part with despite weeks of obsessing over it. I go back and forth with no resolution. And even if I did decide on selling something - one of my 5 digits for example - since it is not urgent, what's the best time to sell - now or down the road a bit? Kinda stuck. I know there's people who claim to know exactly what they want at all times (and belittle those who have some watch indecision). Power to them I guess. But for me it feels like I'll go to bed thinking one thing and wake up thinking another. Anyone have any tips and tricks to find out what you really want to keep and what you don't. I came up with this idea of imagining one of my watches got lost or stolen, and I got insurance money, then asking myself would I buy it back. Anything else like that? |

Having bought and sold many over the years, I think of the ones I let go and most of them were dressy or too small. So now I steer clear of dress watches and stick to 40mm or above with a FEW exceptions at 38.
Also it's highly subjective and desires change over the years or even months. I stay away from buying into the hype as I always find that a huge disappointment. |

I won’t be if much help because I’m in your shoes as far as watch uncertainty goes.
One day I’ll be in love with another watch, do research, want to to buy, and the next day I’ll decide otherwise |

If there is nothing that you really want, then I say just sit tight. Why force it if you’re not feeling it? Sounds like you’re pretty content at this moment in time. If I were you I would take time and celebrate this. In a crazy way it’s an accomplishment on its own.
In a time when everyone is trying to keep up with everyone else and advertising looks to keep selling us the latest and greatest; it’s nice to see you can be content with what you own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

With watches, I don’t sell and don’t plan to. I just wait for my surplus to build up and add what I am pining over.
But I imagine if it never gets worn that’s a good reason to sell it and get something you would actually wear! |

Guessing that you want a new watch because you keep looking at it. One thing that helped me curb another addictive consumer good (sneakers) was:
- Unfollow the subreddit - Unfollow IG users - Remove browser bookmarks of the forums - Unsubscribe from watch youtube channels Minimize exposure and you'll be fine. Probably will enjoy existing watches even more -- building more sentimental value in those pieces = reducing likelihood of selling. The issue: Cutting one addiction often means discovering another one. |

If someone asks others when to buy or when to sell, they should do neither.

IMOP, you are overthinking this. If you are struggling over whether you want to part with a watch, then don't sell it.
As far as the time to sell if you want to reduce, unless you have a crystal ball, now looks like a high price time. So, do it.

Put away the one(s) you use the least and see if you really miss them after, let's say, one month. If you don't missed them then put it (them) for sale!

What to sell and when? Struggling
It is certainly a seller’s market so now is prime time to prune the collection.
Choosing which one is not as easy. Just looking at your thinking from 6 months ago shows that dithering best. Quote:
But the “how to sell” part does play a role in maximizing your proceeds. Maybe look at it this way - the one(s) that haven’t been worn in a month or so are the candidates for the marketplace. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
