I hold advanced black belt rank in a martial art. I am a trained marksman. I sleep with one eye open for four hours, then switch eyes. I alternate which eye is open first so "they" won't know which direction to attack from.

I drilled a hole in my roof so there is always a puddle by my door that an intruder would have to stand in to ring the doorbell. I run an extension cord to the inside of the front door knob, connected to my bedside lamp so if someone rings the doorbell and I turn my light on, they'll get fried.

I buy expired tuna fish and leave partially opened cans around my property. The smell alone is a deterrent, and it also attracts stray dogs, which are much cheaper than trained security animals. Some of these dogs are rabid.

I insulated my home with asbestos, so any miscreant who might actually gain entry will die of lung disease in a few decades. Of course, I wear a protective forced-air breathing system when I'm home.

That's about it. You should see some of my neighbors, though. They go to extremes!

My house was broken into when I lived in Hong Kong. Thieves came into my bedroom while we slept and took the watches from our bedside tables literally a foot from where we were sleeping. Landlord (a senior police officer) told me to get a dog.

When I worked at the jewelry store, I adopted an idea from a customer who travelled quite a bit. She would obtain from us those small, zip plastic pouches, put an earring into each and then place both bagged earrings into a larger bag. She did the same with each piece of jewelry.
The result was no scratches and complete protection of her pretties. BTW: she would then toss her fortune of bagged jewelry (crystalopedia) in an old, crumpled plastic grocery bag and store it in the wheel well inside her trunk. Smart lady.

What’s even sadder is that there have been rampant cases of bolted down safes being hauled out using trucks and chains.
