Pm ruined my steel pieces

I am a steel Rolex sport model fan and always has been. Been wearing Rolex for close to 20 years now. About a few years ago I started to buy some gold Rolexes like the Pepsi, smurf, yellow gold blue sub and rose gold gmt. Now I find myself wearing the pm ones much more and now start to loss interest I. Steel watches. Does any of you guys have the same experiences?

No. I've bought and sold two Day-Dates with "president" bracelets, one YG and the other RG. I love the look of gold Day Dates but, after two tries at ownership, decided that look is not compatible with my conservative personality. I'm most comfortable with the understated look of SS. On the other hand, I'm comfortable with a thin gold "dress watch" on leather.

You should try the whitegold then.

I swapped all my steel rolexes for daytona RG OF which is my first PM. PM surely has something more to offer than steel (especially those with premiums).

About 5 years ago that happened to me now I keep the same watch for a month or two and put pm into the rotation

I was expecting to read about some sort of unknown chemical reaction between PM and steel that is affecting the tater:-)
I feel that what you’re experiencing could be normal, you’re falling in love for something called precious metal which should be more appealing and feel much much better than steel. I don’t own any PM at the moment but I would leave a steel watch behind for a white gold model for example, that’s for sure. The white gold GMT with that amazing blue dial is an example. Where can you find that gorgeousness in steel?
So, You’re ok don’t feel bad for your steels being neglected :-)

I’ve sold 4 of my SS Rolexes for this exact reason. I only really wear my 3 PM ones now. Have a RG, PT and YG.

It’s night and day for me.

I dont even bother looking at SS watches with an interest in procuring them. PM all the way!

Once I started wearing Rolex, I left my Hamilton's and Seikos to gather dust. A shame because I still like those pieces, but there's nothing like slipping on a Rolex, (or luxury watch of your choice) to start the day off with a little thrill.
I've returned to occasionally wearing my Hamilton Ventura and the Seiko my father bought me, but not as often as I should.

Your situation makes perfect sense. I'm simply grateful we can have such a discussion.

Yep, sounds familiar. It took me quit some years but after wearing PM for a while absolute zero interest in ss Rolex anymore.

Get a PM on an oysterflex.. not that flashy

I agree, I almost force myself to wear stainless. My order of wear preference is Pt, Au, then SS.

Yep, I love my PM pieces. The only SS Rolex that I really enjoy over the PM versions is my Pepsi GMT with the jubilee and the darker colored bezel. All of my other SS pieces, I have been wearing them less and less.

I am just the opposite. I started with SS about 30 years ago and had several SS, TT and then went PM with a YG Daytona that I wore for almost a decade. Then I went all in on the PM and have owned then all. WG, YG, RG and Platinum in all of the models available. I currently own a YG and Platinum DD II and they get very little wrist time compared to my SS models from Tudor, Seiko, Panerai and Rolex. I still enjoy them when I wear them, but currently gravitate toward SS or titanium. Interesting how that works.

I have a thing with pm. After I bought my first, 116619, I went with yellow gold as well. The weight and feel just make me feel good. When I am interested in a SS, I tend to now look at the pm version, like, the blro is a special looking watch that I might want to add, but, I will only add it in the pm version as I know the SS will feel much to light for me.

Totally. I think there's something about the human condition to gravitate towards the metal (value retention be darned!), like a Gollum inducing moment. And even with WG, it looks like steel from far away but up close there still a strong human allure to the metal.

Except for times when I need a true "tool watch" where SS still reigns king, PM always gets picked up first.

Yes at first the PMs were intoxicating and I bought a string of them in a row, but after a couple of years I got the itch back again for SS and their ease of wear, so now I like having a balance of the two.

Have both PM and SS. I use my SS more. Love the PM watches but also love my SS.

Same thing happened to me. Acquired a great collection of SS Rolex, including all the hard to find models people lust after. Then bought my first PM, and the SS suddenly looked and felt less special. It was actually sad how quickly my heart changed.

I think the human eye is naturally drawn to gold. The heft and rich warm luster is very comforting compared to the cold shine of SS. I haven’t owned a platinum watch, but I assume it will be the same.

If they made the Explorer II in white gold, then I would never wear an SS watch again. (Somewhere a tool watch fan just puked in his mouth). Sorry boys, I prefer gold.

I will still keep my SS subs but no longer looking for any SS models. Only want to acquire PM pieces.

Try white gold or platinum. It changes everything

I had a 6-digit WG sport piece for a while...it was fun to hand to people because they would always comment on how heavy it was, but the reason I sold it was because of how heavy it was. It just wasn’t comfortable to wear on my 6.75” wrist. I should mention that I am outside riding bikes, hiking, running, or skiing almost everyday.

I would totally buy a smaller PM (37-39mm) dress watch, with a leather strap - but function over form, if it doesn’t feel good to wear, I don’t want to put it on as a daily.
